AI: What's going on?

Artificial intelligence (AI) is already an indispensable part of our lives. In the field of social life, economy, health care, army, traffic and education... Everywhere there are more and more - sometimes very surprising - applications. And the end is far from in sight, the potential is enormous. An enlightening documentary that looks at the present and the future of AI, but also dares to ask questions about possible pitfalls. Should we set a limit somewhere or place our full trust in AI? Are we gradually becoming superhumans or are we just losing control of our own destiny?

The Birth of a Kingdom

In the mineral landscape, the figures seem to belong to a re-imagined archaic age. Huge masks, hieratic postures condense each character into an archetype. Suddenly they reappear in a shadow theater whose stretched sheet echoes the cinema screen. A spectator falls asleep and reappears with an animal mask, simultaneously red riding hood and wolf. Gaia Formenti and Marco Piccareda continue on the path of Creatura dove vai? (FID 2019) with this tale which, its formal fertility becoming sexual, culminates in a hymn of the mucous membrane and bodily fluids. (Nathan Letoré)

La Piave

La Piave is an attempt to describe the Piave river and its surroundings as a character in constant change. Each chapter shows a different research session in which the landscape is analyzed in its structure through individual shots, thus forming a naturalist mosaic that accounts for the different conformations of the territory over the years. This first part collects the documentation of the place made by me between 2017 and 2021, as well as a couple of found footage sequences.

In our documentary, the reporters follow the path of the raw material from the log to the prefabricated house ready for occupancy and show the challenges that builders and planners can sometimes encounter.

Four Seasons In Rural Sicily

In Sicily, a small farming village survived in the area of Marineo, just 30 kilometres from Palermo. Over the course of the four seasons, life and traditions adapt to the changing crops and climates. This documentary tells the story of the people there who, with the crisis in cereal production and milk cow raising, are seeking to maintain the traditions of their ancestors, their fathers and grandparents. They are still using age-old tools to work the land and raise animal species that are disappearing due to industrial breeding.

The movement advocates for the adoption of food production systems that are based on natural resources, local production inputs, values of cooperation, and agricultural practices that are culturally, environmentally, socially, economically, and nationally appropriate for the Palestinian context.

Military Strongholds: Megastructures of Genius

In the heart of central Europe are some of the world’s most impenetrable military strongholds. In France, 160 megastructure fortresses still line the country’s borders 3 centuries after they were constructed. As solid as ever, how did they withstand attack after attack? Was the secret in their materials? Their shape? In fact, the strength and resilience of these megastructures is due to the genius of one man: Sébastien le Prestre de Vauban.

Frozen Jumper

"Frozen Jumper" begins in hit-and-run style with a pulsating textural noise. Flickering, nearly rectangular patterns join on the image plane, at first in black-and-white, bringing to mind the sprocket holes in celluloid film and, not least due to the lack of geometric precision, giving the impression of a pre-digital origin. As the soundtrack rattles on in a minimalistic way, the pattern’s twitchy dance is submerged in various warm hues such as yellow, pink, light green and light blue, which in a different rhythm and to a more agreeable music could be perceived as the signature of slightly retro psychedelia.
