Un giorno di regno

A tale of thwarted love and mistaken and assumed identities, this comedy revolves around an ordinary man becoming ‘King for a Day’. Cavaliere di Belfiore has, to distract attention from the genuine monarch, assumed the identity of King Stanislas of Poland, and arrived with much pomp at the castle of Baron Kelbar near Brest. There he finds himself in the middle of preparations for two weddings: the baron's daughter Giulietta is, most unwillingly, to marry the elderly La Rocca, while a local military official is hoping for the hand of the Marchesa del Poggio. Can ‘King Stanislas’ use his regal power in time to disentangle these unhappy betrothals before his true identity is revealed?

Muddi - Zwölf Annäherungen an das Altern

The director's mother is 90 years old—and is beginning to forget herself. Not only herself, but everything else as well. She has dementia. Only her faith and her tireless knitting of exclusively blue socks keep her alive. The director, whose relationship with his mother has been very tense throughout his life, approaches the dissolution of his mother's ego in this experimental and essayistic film with the support of Didier Eribon, Simone de Beauvoir, Norbert Elias, Jean Améry, and others. In addition to this very personal story, he also tells a universal story about the process of aging, about repression, but also about rebellion in dealing with and interacting with aging people.

I Saw the Face of God in the Jet Wash

“I love films that foreground the fact that you are watching film,” states British director Mark Jenkin, who in his film diary returns, among others, to the Cornwall locations which gave rise to his mesmeric Enys Men. The series of Super8 shots taken from his travels and the comprehensive voice-overs make for a fascinating mosaic of encounters, observations, formative quotations from cinematic and other works, and also possible fantasies. Here, Jenkin demonstrates his ability to give his films an appealing timeless quality and to connect the familiar with the curiously enigmatic. One hundred and one interesting facts from the filmmaker’s diary. (Viktor Palák)

MOTOMAMI. SOBRE EL CAMP I LA PERFORMANCE.

Winner of the First Prize at the ARGÓ Awards, Fourth Prize at the UB Awards, and Special Mention for Best Cultural Work at the Domènec Font Awards. A documentary produced and directed by Juan Manuel Segovia, in which six experts from the fields of art and journalism explore the broad concepts of Motomami, Camp, and Performance. The film analyzes how the fusion of these three elements has resulted in a work regarded as one of the best albums in the world. Beyond the content itself, the director approaches this project from a personal perspective: ironic, critical, and open. He is interested in questioning the seriousness often imposed by adult life and in reclaiming a different way of engaging with art and the world — one rooted in curiosity, freedom, and depth.

Plongeurs

In Marseille, Plongeurs are known for diving from extreme heights into the mediterranean sea. They are both applauded and vilified, regularly featuring in music videos, viral reels and local news; where journalists report romantic accounts of their exploits. Each summer, a death or severe accident occurs often leading the press to turn on the community, making them mascots for the city’s social ills. The film captures the story of these young men, as they navigate the uneasy transition from boyhood to adulthood; looking beyond adrenaline to reveal how this hazardous pastime helps them to articulate their complex identities and experiences.

Algeria, Special Weapons Sections

This documentary by director Claire Billet and historian Christophe Lafaye details the massive and systematic use of chemical weapons during the Algerian War. Algerian fighters and civilians, sheltering in caves, were gassed by "special weapons sections" of the French army. The gas identified on military documents is CN2D, whose widespread use forced insurgents to flee "treated" sites, at the risk of dying there. The method is reminiscent of the "enfumades" used by the French expeditionary force during the conquest of Algeria in the 19th century. Between 8,000 and 10,000 such operations are believed to have taken place on Algerian soil between 1956 and 1962. This historical aspect is little known due to the difficulty of accessing archives, many of which are still classified, raising questions about memory, historical truth, and justice.
