Bunadsgeriljaen

In the spring of 2019, Anja Solvik makes an important decision, she puts on the Nordmørsbunad and promises not to take it off until the maternity ward in Kristiansund is saved. The film follows guerrilla leader Anja and the women's struggle in coastal Norway to keep the maternity services in their hometown. Who are the women behind the guerrillas and why have so many people become involved in this cause? This is the story of the battle between the center and periphery, the deepest line of conflict in Norwegian society.

Boggy

An abandoned car. Dangerous spiders. Unrequited love. And hundreds of blackberries. In the heart of her childhood bog, Anita invites her best friend Jill for a “camping sleepover.” But things are not what they seem as Anita neglects to mention traumatic events from her past, and some secrets are unwilling to stay beneath the surface. Told through a video-collage compromised of a live-recording from a 2021 reading—with layers upon layers of B-roll, animations, and puppetry — Jonah Barnett’s “Boggy” is the cumulative work between the author themself and twelve different artists.

Anthony's

After getting into a fight with her ex-boyfriend, Aimee gets into a car accident with her high school English teacher, Anthony. Anthony offers her a place to stay after noticing that she lives in her car. Anthony's follows the rest of the day that they spend together, while comparing both of their obsessive personalities and tumultuous lives. It deals with awkwardness between old "friends" and the taboos of being intimately alone with someone you may remember but don't actually know, while also exploring how technology can enable obsessive behavior.

Atlanta Forest Garden: Four Days of Work

In March 2023, despite a flush of police raids and arrests in the struggle against Cop City in Atlanta, the Weelaunee Food Autonomy Festival gathered people for four days of learning and working in the forest. The observational film follows along as participants in the festival plant hundreds of fig, pawpaw, and persimmon saplings, give away fruit trees to neighbors of the forest, graft edible pears onto invasive trees, learn to mix herbal medicines, and restore an area of forest that had been recently disturbed by illegal demolition work.

HANDMADE

HANDMADE is a film diptych that juxtaposes natural phenomena with technological discovery. Above, we see the chaotic, digitally manipulated streams of a gale-force storm. Below, we see the crafting of a handwoven device made by a physicist at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena. He is making a sensitive instrument for a massive research project studying antimatter, particles that have the opposite charge of ordinary matter. Yet the complex device we see being built has the simplest of means. “The object itself is a beautiful thing made out of parts from a hardware store,” Thornton notes. These vignettes are interspersed with haunting film recordings of fluid dynamics studies, which chart the unpredictable movement of liquid and sand. [Overview courtesy of MoMA]

Larry

Takeshi Murata and Christopher Rutledge continue their playful investigation of both the sharp-edged hyperrealism of commercial CGI and its oozing, anarchic breakdown in Larry, which propels its titular character—a droopy-eyed canine baller—through a series of increasingly bizarre and messy loops. Set to a soundtrack of maxed-out electronic rhythms, these vignettes form a ludic study in morphology and motion, as its pooch protagonist continually vaults, multiplies, gets buckets, and dissolves into digital goo.
