Seven frames, seven episodes of one visual journey. A silent film explores the space between language, body and identity during the time of isolation. It is the second film from photographer / mixed-media artist turned Shantel Liao, and the first film made completely independently as a personal project.

At the ripe age of 102, Chinhua Ho Chen, “Miss Golden Blossom”, takes center stage. In 1938, her voice graced the tracks of “Endless Spring” and “The Camellia Lady”, released by Victory Records, under the stage name “Yingying”. She also stands as the first among renowned female singers of Taiwan’s popular ditties. Through Miss Chinhua, we hear the echoes of the once renowned singer Yingying, preserving the distinct voices of Taiwan in popular music and songs.

One major focus of philosophical inquiry has been: how can individuals determine that their existence is not an illusion? However, for those enduring chronic immune diseases, reliance on life might paradoxically hinge on whether the pain is merely a dream. Inspired by the concept of khan-bông(a traditional taiwanese ritual) likening immune diseases to a prolonged battle against one's own body, the spirits of those who die in this war revisit fragments of their memories to re-examine and explore how life and existence coexist and find balance amid perpetual flux and instability.

Naboisho, which means “coming together” in the Maasai’s Maa language, is a community response to the challenges of the privatization of group ranches in the Greater Mara Region. Strain was put on the soil, endemic vegetation, and the wildlife because of intensive herding and various tourism activities such as camping and off-road vehicle activity. I use a field diary to record and track the daily tracks of wild animals and their survival status. In this way, I re-learn about the land, the animals, and the ecology. This film is dedicated to all those who work, build, and protect the conservation areas, and all the creatures that run on the land.

In the original film, Priscilla shuttles through the human home environment, and in PRISCILLA'S DREAM, she dreams of breaking away from human society, into the dream, into the state of flight in the dream, and finally out of the dream and into nature, and gaining complete freedom. This film removes the dangerous encounters and restrictions in the original film, changing the situation in which cats cannot escape from the human living environment.
