The Bible. So What? aims to provoke and address the kinds of questions a spectator might have about the Bible, which, although frequently overlooked, has shaped the moral, legal and cultural foundation of the Western world for the past 1,600 years. I aim to challenge the postmodern relativist impulse to find new meanings as I try to reorient the spectator towards the ‘grand narrative’ of the Bible. By reading it themselves, viewers may discover a deeper sense of meaning, purpose, personal significance, direction and ultimate truth in the Christian gospel, a personally meaningful metanarrative grounded in history, tradition and revelation. Although I present a single perspective due to the time constraints of my brief, the counterargument to my film is already present, as misrepresentations of the Christian faith frequently obscure and corrupt public impressions of the Bible. Therefore, I want to draw the focus back to the Bible, what it says, and show that it is worth reading.
