Alex, Mimy, and Hanil have registered themselves into one of Germany’s most ambitious and unique high schools, one that is entirely organized by its students without any outside funding. The pupils pay their own teachers and decide what they want to learn. No headmaster, no hierarchy, and no pressure. But they still only have two years to prepare for the final test administered and required by the government. A tribute to curiosity, Berlin Rebel High School is a film about the true meaning of learning.

Andreas Hofer. Held wider Willen

During the Napoleonic Wars at the beginning of the 19th century, Andreas Hofer became a Tyrolean folk hero. As the head of a resistance movement, he became caught up in a dangerous political game of interests between the French and Austrians, Napoleon and the Habsburgs. After the defeat at Austerlitz, the Habsburgs had to cede Tyrol to the Bavarian kings in 1805. The liberal Bavarians implemented numerous reforms in Tyrol, including religious reforms, which met with resistance from the rural population. The young Archduke Johann wanted to take advantage of their discontent. In Andreas Hofer, the commander-in-chief of the Tyrolean troops, the brother of Emperor Franz I finds a loyal patriot whom he can use for his political moves. The Tyrolean revolt against the French and Bavarians puts Napoleon in a tight spot. In several battles, the rebels succeed in defeating the Bavarian and French troops, but not in defeating them for good.

Kapitäne

This documentary film portrays five captains. It shows their everyday life on board, and how they fulfill their duties and make decisions. But it goes far beyond: Viewers get to know the captains as people with values, as human beings that also deal with topics such as family and home. The captains' stories tell a lot more than about life at sea. The narrative style is documentary in the classical sense: It is only the captains who speak, there is no voiceover. Their own words and the pictures let viewers gain a very close insight into the captains' lives. Hamburg, the German port known as "gate to the world", creates the cinematic parenthesis of this documentary. All captains portrayed have a close relation to Hamburg - they live or work there or come to Hamburg with their ships every now and then.

Otto Dix: The Ruthless Painter

The painter Otto Dix (1891-1969) dissected and exposed his time like no other. The portraits from the world of the milieu of whores and suitors, of sexual violence, were a taboo break. His brutal depiction of war shook society - he was a ruthless chronicler of his day. In contrast, private life with his wife and children shows the gentle side of the provocative painter. Nicola Graef's film "Otto Dix - The Ruthless Painter" is dedicated to this interplay of life and work. Like few other artists, Dix used his personal experiences and experiences as the basis for his work.

Eltern allein zu Haus: Die Schröders

The graduation ceremony of their son Max is no longer a big excitement for Sabine and Bernd Schröder - after all, they have already successfully brought two older sons through high school. Nonetheless, when the youngest offspring moves out, a new chapter in life begins: They finally have plenty of time for each other and common dreams. At least that's the beautiful theory. Sabine and Bernd have to face the truth: unnoticed by the hustle and bustle of the family, they have drifted apart. Where the offspring once provided common ground, there is suddenly a yawning emptiness. The fact that other couples feel the same way after their children have moved out gives little consolation. And while Bernd continues to bury his head in the sand and hopes for the success of the "sit out" principle, Sabine gets serious. She gives Bernd an ultimatum. Because one thing is clear to them: just continuing like this is out of the question.

Merkel Must Go

Their names are René, Sabine and Daniel – three people among thousands of others who go on to the streets of Dresden every Monday as “Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the West”. They shout “We are the people!” They claim “Merkel must go!” The director Sabine Michel accompanied them for one year – on their demonstrations and in their daily lives. Merkel Must Go is not a film about PEGIDA, it asks for the personal reasons for this patriotic protest, a film about realistic and absurd fears of the present.
