Bernhard works as a warehouse clerk in Munich. After being sentenced to probation for a physical altercation with a right-wing extremist, he could no longer continue his engineering studies. Bernhard meets Johanna. She comes from a well-to-do family; her father is a real-estate developer and her brother is in the diplomatic service. Bernhard wants to share his roots with her, so the two go to Prague, where he lived until the end of the war. But her father disapproves of the trip to the Eastern bloc. When Bernhard finds out that he owes his chance to develop new technology, which led to his career advancement, to his girlfriend’s father, he is upset …

Steve Weston, a diamond prospector in Ceylon, is robbed of his precious stones. Left without money, he gets hired in a mine where he finds Alfred, the man who stole his diamonds, in the guise of the ruthless overseer. He, having recognized his victim, tries to get rid of him by blaming him in turn for theft. Having thwarted the attempt, Steve organizes the escape from the mine with the complicity of other whites and the help of a guard who owes him a debt of gratitude.

Documentary footage of the street and youth scene in Munich alternates with narrative passages in which the 19-year-old’s parents take a ruthless approach to solving the problem.

A Roman noble, Cethegus, tries to start a war, setting the Ostrogoths and their Queen, Amalasuntha, against the Byzantine Emperor Justinian; Cethegus wants to swoop in after they have destroyed each other and create a new Roman Empire from their combined kingdoms; however, he does not factor into his plans the vagaries of love and the personal integrity of the people in both kingdoms.

This film has two parts. In the first part, the film material is on 8mm uncut film, so that in the 16mm projection a 4-fold film can be seen. In the second part of the film, the 16mm film is shown in full size, that means the picture is now enlarged four times its size.
