The Ants and the Grasshopper

Anita Chitaya has a gift: she can help bring abundant food from dead soil, she can make men fight for gender equality, and maybe she can end child hunger in her village. Now, to save her home in Malawi from extreme weather, she faces her greatest challenge: persuading Americans that climate change is real. Traveling from Malawi to California to the White House, she meets climate sceptics and despairing farmers. Her journey takes her across all the divisions that shape the USA: from the rural-urban divide, to schisms of race, class and gender, and to the American exceptionalism that remains a part of the culture. It will take all her skill and experience to help Americans recognise, and free themselves from, a logic that is already destroying the Earth.

Through the Darkness

The poignant story of a love triangle that upended the life of one of the most important figures of 20th-century classical music. Composer Arnold Schoenberg befriended painter Richard Gerstl, a young man who shared the revered musician's passion for art—but that was not the only love they shared, as Schoenberg's wife also found herself drawn to the mysterious figure who was Gerstl. The drama and tragedy that ensued also cleared the way for one of the most groundbreaking aesthetic shifts in music history.

El piso del viento

A couple builds a space to live. When it is finished, before inhabiting it, they invite a group of people to visit it. The invited people circulate individually through this new and empty space. They look, they walk, they talk. The film tries to rescue the effect of that experience in each one of them. So the space itself becomes an experience. What will they leave of themselves? What will they take? What will they show of the human? What is a house? What do you do with the past? The series of people who briefly inhabit that place, recently built, still free of all traces, could be thought of as infinite. The space fills and empties. The residual of that transit remains: a luminous fragility.

A Shot of Hope

In the 21st century, under the influence of anti-hunting activism, the very idea that hunting is wrong from a moral point of view since the hunter “enjoys killing” is formed in the mass consciousness. And in general - that rich hunters are wiping out endangered species. Sergey Yastrzhembsky, who never hid his passion for hunting despite facing negative and sometimes aggressive comments, decided, as he himself said, «to restore justice». This is a film about how a properly organized wildlife management changes the everyday life of people for the better, rebuilds the state treasury, creates thousands of new jobs, preserves rare species of animals.

Des traîtres dans la Résistance

In May 1943, Ernst Kaltenbrunner, the new head of the Reich Central Security Office, gave Hitler a report describing in detail the organization of the French Resistance. Indeed, during the Second World War, most of the Resistance networks had been infiltrated by traitors, the "V Man" (trusted men) in the service of the occupier. The Germans had established treason as a system and recruiting Frenchmen ready to inform on them was one of their priorities. It was these Frenchmen, whose number is estimated at between 20,000 and 30,000, who dealt terrible blows to the Resistance.

Resurgence

Resurgence tells the story of Jonas Gilham, a poet from Washington, DC, on a journey to transcend his own learned toxic masculinity from the street to prison, where self-education and egalitarian principles transformed a very troubled boy into a man committed to guiding other men through their own personal revolutions. Cuba’s Life Task: Combatting Climate Change

Climate change is among the world’s greatest challenges. As a small Caribbean island, Cuba is disproportionately affected by climate change through extreme weather events. Up to 10% of Cuban territory could be submerged by the end of the century, wiping out coastal towns, polluting water supplies, destroying agricultural lands and forcing one million people to relocate. Finding solutions is now essential. In this documentary, Dr Helen Yaffe goes to Cuba to find out about ‘Tarea Vida’ (Life Task), a long-term state plan to protect the population, environment and the economy from climate change. The Cuban approach combines environmental science, natural solutions and community participation in strategies for adaptation and mitigation. Produced by DaniFilms with Dr Helen Yaffe from the University of Glasgow for the COP26 conference in Glasgow.

Salvar Tenerife

Salvar Tenerife shows, like never before, the overexploitation to which the island of Tenerife is submitted. It receives more than 6 million tourists a year and has a population of 930000 inhabitants. These figures are born from the terrible way in which the island has been managed during the last decades and currently. An infinite and untenable growth which is threatening more than ever the natural spaces and biodiversity from Tenerife, more and more deteriorated each day. This documentary seeks to boost a change towards real sustainable development, so we can have a future in which we live alongside nature and we can keep enjoying Tenerife (and the rest of the Canary Islands) in their wild and natural state.
