“Come Out of the Ghetto”: Theater Brühwarm and the Gay Movement of the 1970s

Founded in Hamburg in the 1970s, the gay theater "Brühwarm" toured Germany with its musical cabaret. Founding member Corny Littmann wrote the lyrics and Rio Reiser ("Ton Steine Scherben") provided the music. The result was a new form of theater as a political tool. In the documentary, former members of the theater have their say and give an impressive account of how the theater group, with its emancipatory and political aspirations, fought for gay rights in the turbulent political times of the 1970s.

Before Macintosh: The Apple Lisa

Explores the history, technology, people, stories and industry influence of this lesser-known personal computer. The film profiles important individuals involved in the creation of the computer, plus its life after cancellation, both as an entry-level Macintosh compatible and as a collectible. The work of Douglas Engelbart and his team, plus advances from the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) with their Alto and Star workstations were the initial innovators of the Graphical User Interface (GUI), but the Apple Lisa stands as the clear foundation for what we all use today -- Macintosh -- Windows -- iOS -- Android.

Promises

Portrait moments collected across the world carry powerful situations and stand out from the grip of the image with an expression, a tear, a flame, a scar or a position of the body. The glances and gestures directed beyond the frame of the photograph both stun and shake; the documentary and fictional scenes highlight traces of the elements or of cruelty, but also impressive expressions of harmony and concord. A single window carries the weight or the unfolding of a dramatic story.

Gegen das Schweigen - Machtmissbrauch bei Theater und Film

Insults, humiliation, violence, sexual assault - the world behind the camera and the scenes can be a nightmare for many theater and film professionals. Some directors, but also well-known actors, apparently abuse their power and treat those around them on set or on stage with contempt or even abuse. Individual cases have been known for years, including under #metoo. But are they really isolated cases? Or can directors and actors allow themselves anything because the system allows it? In their three-year research, the documentary filmmakers spoke to more than 200 film and theater professionals about the problems in their industry. How much responsibility do the alleged perpetrators bear for abuse of power and how much responsibility does the financiers, production companies, broadcasters and also the audience bear?
