Val Grande - Itinerario di circostanza

From the hell of the city, we pass into another dimension: that of the silence of nature. Among caves, waterfalls and woods, the path rises higher and higher, towards the memory and the mountains. The sun sets and night looms. But the dawn of a new day appears on the horizon and the world before us lights up. In the distance, you can hear the echoes of the city, and a boy, at the top of the mountain, listens to the wind, losing himself in the infinite.

Future Comes at the Right Time

Today, sexual freedom and gender self-determination are punishable by arrest or death in several countries. This short film tells the story of Nelson and his escape to Italy after a violent assault. He was born 25 years ago in Benin City, one of the most unstable areas of Nigeria. In 2018, the territorial commission that examined his case found his testimony insufficiently credible and rejected his application for international protection. In 2021, Nelson appealed to the Venice Tribunal. While awaiting his verdict, which may take months, Nelson spends his days working, hanging out with friends and making music, hoping to one day become a great singer.

Good morning Tel Aviv

Tel Aviv is the city that never sleeps, the start-up nation par excellence, the most secular and cosmopolitan of all the cities in the Middle East. Its dynamism manages to combine the memory of the past with the unstoppable ambition to offer itself every day to change, to bet, to the future. The question is: is Tel Aviv the vanguard of an Israel to come, or is it just a small island - a "bubble" as they say - within a country in constant conflict with its neighbors and beyond.

Via Campegna 58, scala I, Interno 8, 80421, Napoli

A happy New Year's Eve, the capitone, the little girl who is a little curious about it and a little scared, the fireworks in the sky of Naples, the kisses of the new year. Suddenly, however, that same house appears different, it is empty and silent, while the director's hands seem to search for traces of something that has perhaps already become a memory. Via Campegna 58 was the author's parents' home, where she grew up, was a daughter and then a mother. Upon his father's death he must empty it, and in lingering in every corner, as if to thoroughly scrutinize the smallest details, it is as if he wanted to take that past life with him, enclosed in the objects, in the useless things that every house accumulates, among the pens , the paintings, the clothes hanging neatly in the wardrobes, the black and white photographs of the young, beautiful, happy parents.

L'Angelo della Storia

Starting from Allende's last speech to the nation and recalling the events of 11 September 1973 which led to the Pinochet dictatorship, the project is conceived for the use of archival materials which attempt to subvert the ineluctability of history, on a imaginary line of “ehat if” hypotheses as opposed to the reality of the facts. A project that wants to be a source of memory and reflection for today, in an era of sovereignty and the return of fascism not only in Latin America, but throughout the world.

The Birth of a Kingdom

In the mineral landscape, the figures seem to belong to a re-imagined archaic age. Huge masks, hieratic postures condense each character into an archetype. Suddenly they reappear in a shadow theater whose stretched sheet echoes the cinema screen. A spectator falls asleep and reappears with an animal mask, simultaneously red riding hood and wolf. Gaia Formenti and Marco Piccareda continue on the path of Creatura dove vai? (FID 2019) with this tale which, its formal fertility becoming sexual, culminates in a hymn of the mucous membrane and bodily fluids. (Nathan Letoré)

La Piave

La Piave is an attempt to describe the Piave river and its surroundings as a character in constant change. Each chapter shows a different research session in which the landscape is analyzed in its structure through individual shots, thus forming a naturalist mosaic that accounts for the different conformations of the territory over the years. This first part collects the documentation of the place made by me between 2017 and 2021, as well as a couple of found footage sequences.

Four Seasons In Rural Sicily

In Sicily, a small farming village survived in the area of Marineo, just 30 kilometres from Palermo. Over the course of the four seasons, life and traditions adapt to the changing crops and climates. This documentary tells the story of the people there who, with the crisis in cereal production and milk cow raising, are seeking to maintain the traditions of their ancestors, their fathers and grandparents. They are still using age-old tools to work the land and raise animal species that are disappearing due to industrial breeding.

Vedi Napoli e poi muori

Taking inspiration from Michael Moore's Bowling for Columbine, Enrico Caria reflects at length on his native country—on the Camorra and the possible existence of the so-called "two cities"—giving life, color, and words to the documentary film Vedi Napoli e poi muori (See Naples and then die). The title is deliberately provocative because it uses the famous saying to denounce the countless murders committed by the Camorra, which reigns supreme in Naples and its surroundings.

Back Home Tomorrow

Documentary about two children who have been directly affected by wars in their respective countries. Six-year-old Murtaza took a landmine home to play with and it blew up in his hand, a familiar story in Afghanistan where one child is killed or injured every day by unexploded munitions. Fifteen-year-old Yagoub suffers from rheumatic heart disease, which if left untreated is life-threatening. Refugees from Sudan's 20 years of unrest, his family are unable to pay for treatment at the local hospital, giving him little more than six months to live. This moving film follows the stories of these two resilient boys and the efforts of the remarkable Italian NGO Emergency to give them back their futures. (Storyville)

This is Bologna

Bologna is a bizarre place. However, outside is barbarism. The old city is besieged by a new savannah. Homeless, nomads, tourists, dropouts are only the vanguard of a new citizenship. The ancestors of future kings. This film is a back portrait, an out-of-focus, night-time appearance. We will carefully avoid showing great monuments, famous people and facts of proven historical significance. Instead It’s a portrait that goes for minor fragments, anonymous citizens, intruders. Lies.

Wolfango. Una lunga fedeltà

A film-journey into the art of Wolfango, born in Bologna in 1926, "the greatest living Italian painter", as Eugenio Riccomini defined him, who first, in 1986, convinced him to exhibit his works. "Painting enters inside and speaks to the world; indeed, it speaks to the world". His production is based on this assumption, extraneous to contemporary artistic currents. The film is also a passionate chorus of those who have known and appreciated it in the last thirty years.
