Skanda Puranam (from mythology) tells the story of Kanyakumari who threw into the sea, the flowers and gemstones kept for her marriage with Shiva. It is said to have coloured the shores. When the last Maharaja of Travancore dynasty travelled through Kanyakumari, he was awed by the exquisite garland made of Oleander flowers and called it Manikkamalai - the ruby garland. Ever since, a family in Thovalai village of Kanyakumari has been weaving Maharaja's favourite garland every morning, to be sent to his Palace temple. The dynasty ended long ago and state borders were marked in modern India. Yet, the custom holding the two lands, in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, remains intact.

On November 17, 2015, construction on Baldwin Hall on the University of Georgia campus came to a halt when workers uncovered human remains on the site. DNA tests revealed what many local residents already knew to be true: these were the remains of formerly enslaved people. This uncovering and the events that followed have forced the often-omitted histories of slavery and segregation to rise to the surface, both at the University of Georgia and in Athens. “Below Baldwin”, featuring Fred Smith, Linda Davis, Alvin Sheats, Linda Lloyd, Mariah Parker, Broderick Flanigan, and others, chronicles the series of events between November 2015 and December 2019. But more than that - this documentary showcases a community’s persistent efforts to connect to its past and to win recognition and redress – for both past and present injustices.

"CIVIL WAR SURVEILLANCE POEMS (Part 1)" is the first installment in a five-part project of experimental and hybrid-form short films contemplating a second American civil war via lyrical nonfiction, mixing call-in radio, twenty years of verité footage from the filmmaker's archive, and robots. Conceptually speculating from sixteen years in the future (and a protracted civil war), the project is partly nostalgic political travelogue, partly a quest to mine the archive for what went wrong, and part prewar surveillance records, the project deconstructs and builds to a clashing ideology, culminating in an installation of sound sculpture, four-walled video and artifacts.
