The Suape Complex controls the region and through its #miliciasuape it has been intimidating, expelling and removing the local populations. A carpenter, Mr. Biu has fabricated tables for years; in her project made for “Convocatória para um Mobiliário Brasileiro” (“Open Call for a Brazilian Furniture”) an installation at the MASP (Art Museu of São Paulo), the artist Carla Lombardo dubbed these tables as “Gentrificada” (“Gentrified”). This pseudo diary film is made of found materials from an unfinished 16mm film. Potenciais à Deriva is a film started by a Brazilian artist under a pseudonym while living in exile in Los Angeles, California. Isolated shots and previously assembled scenes reveal an intention to create a mysterious film comprised of disembodied interviews, empty rooms, radio recordings, soccer games, and sudden apparitions of the filmmaker that slowly ruminates on Brazil's colonial past, North American Imperialism and the military dictatorship of the time in a paranoid and anxious manner. Be aware that the film's final version never came to exist. This version presented is my mere attempt to produce a film with these otherwise lost images.

In 1967, de Andrade was invited by the Italian company Olivetti to produce a documentary on the new Brazilian capital city of Brasília. Constructed during the latter half of the 1950s and founded in 1960, the city was part of an effort to populate Brazil’s vast interior region and was to be the embodiment of democratic urban planning, free from the class divisions and inequalities that characterize so many metropolises. Unsurprisingly, Brasília, Contradições de uma Cidade Nova (Brasília, Contradictions of a New City, 1968) revealed Brasília to be utopic only for the wealthy, replicating the same social problems present in every Brazilian city. This film was created and produced by students of the NÓIS NO DOC ONLINE 2023 course, carried out as part of the É NÓIS NA FITA project.
