Clarity of Cal

'Clarity of Cal' captures the quiet chaos behind Vulfpeck’s most ambitious undertaking: recording a studio album entirely on stage. Over eight live shows—six in Berkeley, two in Los Angeles—the band pursues a single goal: the perfect take, played in real time, without a net. Director Carter Knopik documents the grind of rehearsals, the strain of performance, and the pressure of trying to bottle magic without breaking it. A raw and revealing portrait of what it means to chase clarity—in art, and in self.

Malqueridas

They are women. They are mothers. They are inmates serving long sentences in a prison in Chile. Their children grow up far from them, but remain in their hearts. In prison they find the affection of other inmates who share their same experience. Mutual support among these women becomes a form of resistance and emancipation. Malqueridas reconstructs their stories through the images they themselves shot with cell phones prohibited inside the prison, recovering the collective memory of a forgotten community.

Life Is Naive Art

The nearest town to the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone is Ivankiv, home to about 8,000 people. From February 24 to April 1, Ivankiv was under Russian occupation. The occupiers bombed the museum of Maria Prymachenko, a world-renowned local artist. Despite air raid alarms, attacks by Russian drones and missiles, power outages, and the ongoing threat from neighboring Belarus, the town continues to live. Our story is about the residents of Ivankiv — more precisely, the children who study at the Maria Prymachenko School of Arts, where they practice music and visual arts. While creating paintings in the style of the famous artist, the children share their experiences of surviving the occupation and how the war affects their lives.

Rewilding Patagonia

This is one of the most beautiful rewilding stories of our time, that of Douglas and Kristine Tompkins, a couple of successful entrepreneurs – The North Face and Esprit – who decided to dedicate themselves to protecting vast territories in Patagonia. The results of their actions are astounding: in 30 years they enabled the creation and expansion of 18 national parks between Chile and Argentina, covering a total area of 7 million hectares, equivalent to the size of a country like Ireland. By transforming these spaces and reconstructing natural ecosystems, the development of these parks has also enabled the creation of social bonds, developed a new form of economic activity, brought forth a political space, and contributed to strengthening the population’s sense of belonging to their territories.

Welcome to Lynchland

Creator of absolute freedom, David Lynch constructed his work as an enigma to be deciphered between dream and reality. A cult director from his first films ("Eraserhead", "Elephant Man", "Blue Velvet"), Lynch forever changed the world of television with his series "Twin Peaks", before tackling the lies of Hollywood in "Mulholland Drive". Tracing the life of the most influential filmmaker of his generation, this documentary explores the hidden meaning of a relentlessly consistent filmography and delves beneath the dark, teeming surface of the American Dream.

Lucia Moholy, la photographe du Bauhaus

As a Bauhaus photographer, Lucia Moholy (1894-1989) was a pioneer of New Objectivity. Her husband László Moholy-Nagy was appointed to the Bauhaus in 1923. They worked there together and László became famous as the inventor of the photogram, a photo without film. Lucia's contribution to this only became known later. When the Czech-born Jew was forced to leave Germany in 1933 after the Nazis seized power, she was unable to take her most important possession, her glass negatives, with her. She struggled to keep her head above water in London and worked for the British secret service on the microfilming of valuable documents. With her vision of microfilm as freely accessible information for all, she is now regarded as a pioneer of the Internet. After the war, Lucia set out in search of her glass negatives.

Voice of the Forest

The forest is cultivated with a saw. At least that’s still what forestry schools teach. But what does a healthy forest actually need? Foresters and hunters see the forest as an agricultural commodity and nature as something that must be constantly regulated and managed. On the other side stand conservationists – advocates of non-intervention, who believe the forest can take care of itself without us. Where does private ownership stand in this conflict? And is a human’s right to use natural resources in their surroundings superior to the bear’s right to do the same? Slovak forests have become a battleground – but also a proxy issue of a social conflict that runs much deeper than it first appears.
