Fencing Teacher

The great Mark Rakita is rightfully considered the father of the Russian sabre. One of Russia's most decorated fencers, he won his first Olympic gold back in Tokyo in 1964, and the second in Mexico City in 1968. In addition, he is a six-time world champion, a five-time European champion and a three-time USSR champion. Mark Rakita is also a great fencing coach and teacher, and it's not for nothing that he was awarded the title of Honored Coach of the USSR: he trained Olympic champions Viktor Krovopuskov and Mikhail Burtsev, as well as three—time world champion Sergei Koryazhkin. Rakita was feared because he was considered the smartest saber player on the globe and won not at the expense of strength, but at the expense of intelligence. Today Mark Rakita is 87, but he is still in the ranks – he is chairman of the Council of Elders and chairman of the Coaching Council of the Russian Fencing Federation.

Harmonia Caelestis

Was Hungary one the fascists’ side in WWII? Why does a hydraulic chair leg cost 245 rubles in Maxidom, but only costs 105 in «Leroy Merlin»? Did they have socialism there too? So they don’t have that wall paper? Did you know that it’s democratic parliamentarian republic? It’s the birthplace of the Rubik’s cube. You’d be better off holding this glue instead of goofing off. What would you do if you found out your father was a collaborator? The father was repressed, while the son was repressing the uprising. You know, I write about you in my scripts, I give out your secrets, so what do you feel? Is it dad’s wrench? Maybe they can think that you just made me up? Non-Silk Road

Silk Road Mountain Race is one of the most difficult multi-day cycling races, the route of which runs through the mountains of Kyrgyzstan: about two thousand kilometers at temperatures from +40 to -15 and with a total climb of 30 thousand meters. The extreme Silk Road attracts cyclists from all over the world, but not everyone manages to overcome it on full self-sufficiency. In 2023, two guys from Moscow, Maxim Lapchuk and Sasha Antipov, decided to test themselves and go on this journey. One of them had been preparing for it for three years, the other decided in a week, without going into details. In Peter Barabaki's film, they tell how it was, and invite the viewer to speculate with them on the question of how people come to realize a big dream — how much recklessness, heroism and risk there is in this, and in the end is it worth it.

History Lesson

For most of today's schoolchildren, the siege of Leningrad is just one page in a history textbook. This film is not yet another attempt to tell them about the abstract “feat of Leningrad”, but an opportunity to see with their own eyes what is behind the seeming state school course. For example, with the help of computer graphics, so close to the heart of modern youth, the authors of the film demonstrated what St. Petersburg would look like today if the veterans had not survived, if the city had been surrendered to the enemy.

Meat Grinder 2

“Meat Grinder 2” is an attempt, at one hand, to “listen” to the past – and to distance ourselves from the current moment on the other. The title is referred to the eponymous 1928 OBERIU’s film by Klimenti Mints and Aleksandr Razumovsky, which was proclaimed as an anti-war statement by the authors. “Meat Grinder 2” is constructed from the lines of people who witnessed an air raid. Each line reflects a certain auditory experience, and together they are built into a chronicle of one single day, the sequence of events of which is deconstructed in the film.
