A Vision for the Valley: The Untold Story of the Meewasin Logo

After noticing the Meewasin logo throughout Saskatoon, filmmaker Devon Rumpel set out to answer that question. A Vision for the Valley explores the rare longevity of a modernist logo and the ideas that brought it to life. The film traces the origins of the Meewasin Valley Authority before turning its focus to Vic Sotropa, the logo’s designer, whose largely under-the-radar career has had an outsized impact in Saskatchewan. What begins as an inquiry into graphic design expands into a broader reflection on legacy, place, and the enduring power of human vision.

Holy Defiance

Since 2024, on central squares in many towns and cities across Croatia, groups of primarily elderly and middle-aged men calling themselves 'The Knights of the Immaculate Heart of Mary', gather together in communal prayer and advocating for Christian values, the importance of the patriarchy and enforcing limitations of women's rights, treating these squares as their own personal battlefield, upon which women have no place. Through the documentations of the reactions of law enforcement officials, ordinary passerbys and the 'Knights' themselves, as well as the defiant pieces of multimedia artist Arijana Lekić, Holy Defiance creates a vivid, lively, energetic and varied portrait of women's rights in post-war Croatia.

Meant to Be

At just twenty years old, the rapper has already gone through several identities. As a child, he dreamed of becoming famous. Today, he sells out stadiums. But living with ADHD and achieving success at such a young age has begun to take its toll. Pogány Induló struggles with panic attacks and physical collapses, suppressing his condition through drug use and alcohol consumption. With the recent passage of a Hungarian law criminalizing drug possession and the promotion of drug use, he has also become a political target and finds himself living on the edge of the law. A dynamic montage of images, memories, and thoughts mirrors the rapper’s chaotic mental state, underscoring the dark side of fame at such a young age, as well as the loss—and ongoing search—of one’s identity

Nos cœurs sur la main

A meeting of media, director, and artist, Nos coeurs sur la main is a musical adventure following Ino Casablanca. The project captures a day-long performance blurring the lines between music and fiction, retracing the live recording of a discography in perpetual motion, all within a race against time orchestrated by a peculiar producer, Franck. Across over an hour of music, director Toxine fictionalizes Ino Casablanca's repertoire while upholding the rapper's core values: playing from the heart, unity, and sharing. It serves as a powerful reminder that every musical journey is, at its core, a collective one.

Salitre no more

For around fifteen years, I have been filming a forest of imburana de cambão trees that has been progressively disappearing, located on the border between the states of Bahia and Pernambuco. The visual saturation created through image overlaps and the division of the screen into three parts fosters the emergence of a particular rhythm, in which pulsating texts impose other forms of escape. The gradual disappearance of this forest echoes texts evoking the consequences of climate change, while also inscribing fire and logging as human acts contributing to this impoverishment. The basis of this film was the installation of the same name presented as part of an exhibition at the Frans Krajcberg Space in 2025. The film is denser. The imburanas de cambão burst into flames as the sertão turns into desert.

Happiness Is Living in Our Land

In the midst of the most horrid stagnation era in the Soviet Union – at the end of October 1982 – the Monk (Ivo Uukkivi), Allan Vainola, Peep Männil, and Villu Tamme gather for band practice in a room above the garage of a private house in Pääsküla and form one of the most (politically) heavyweight punk bands in history – Velikiye Luki. For the 60th jubilee of the Soviet Union, Ivo and Villu bake a voodoo ginger cookie and while they gobble it down, they demonstratively establish their programme of action: to destroy the Soviet Union.

Children of the Blitz

During The Blitz, the British government had plans in place to evacuate approximately 3.5 million people, but only around 1.5 million left towns and cities for the countryside, with the majority of those being children. Children of the Blitz tells the stories of those who remained at home, often to help their families, or because their parents couldn’t bear to send them away. Through the eyes of survivors who were children at the time, the film will explore how The Blitz contributed towards our sense of national identity and how the ‘Blitz Spirit’ is still held up as a defining characteristic of Britishness today. The film will also examine the starker reality for children whose homes were destroyed, including those who lost parents, and some who were left to fend for themselves - many grew up with their stories unheard.
