Little Girls

The Dutroux Affair, a notorious child kidnapping and sexual abuse case that struck Belgium in the 1990s, created such a media circus that it distorted an entire nation's collective identity and memory. The generation of children shaped by its sordidly sensational and pervasive coverage are now adults looking to redress their fears, confusion and mistrust. Using shaky VHS tapes from the time coupled with voiceover, these voices of a generation confront their experiences of the crimes as "a threat that invades your body." Their private recollections focus on the effects of hearing graphic descriptions of rape and pedophilia at such a young age that it led to the normalization and development of sexuality informed by sexual abuse.

Ikebana

Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement, is explored in a delicate and ethereal manner, layering space, time, and the elements of life. This ancestral art is observed from a distance, so as to never interrupt the movements of its practitioners. Rita Ferrando’s Ikebana is a hypnotic work with somewhat esoteric narration that highlights each step in the process with animations emphasizing the meticulous and meditative deeper meaning behind the art. This hybrid structure raises questions about the art of representation, inevitably present in cinema. How can we grasp the essence of what we want to show on film? Ikebana suggests that what we seek may be hidden well beyond the visible realm.

How to Disappear

Anti-war movie in the true sense of the word, searching for possibilities for peace in the most unlikely place of an online war game. It’s a tribute to disobedience and desertion — in both digital and physical-real warfare. Shot in the picturesque war landscapes of «Battlefield V», the hyperreal graphics become the backdrop for an essay-like narrative. The film revolves around the history of deserters — a part of human history, which has hardly been illuminated. Performances and creative interventions explore the scopes and limits of the audiovisual entertainment machine.
