The film biography of Alexander Kalyagin is about sixty films. His most vivid role is Platonov in Nikita Mikhalkov’s film “Unfinished Piece for a Mechanical Piano.” No less significant was the theatrical history of the actor. The Way

Thousands of kilometers of snowy silence, severe frosts and piercing winds, the deceptive fragile beauty of the ice. It’s the Arctic, the end of the world, where, in the words of one of the characters, the human soul means the universe. Perhaps that is why for ages these disturbing expenses have lured the fearless and the romantic. This is where the history of the great country was made – the Northern Sea Route was laid. In this film the past meets the present and the heroes of today – captains and crews of the superpowerful atomic icebreakers – just like their predecessors set off on voyages unaware of what lies ahead for them, what trials await them on their long arctic route…

Andrei and Oksana have not seen each other for almost a year and are temporarily returning to their small city, from which both left - he is in St. Petersburg, she is in Paris. They are surrounded by many people, each with their own reasons and ways to live in this touching and almost mystical place with an underground podcast, doppelgangers, a gang on scooters ... The geographical boundaries and the boundaries between the true and the imagined are blurred while the characters look for the answer to the question “why leave? or why stay, ”if you can live like in a movie, directing this reality anywhere in the world.

Everything in this story looks unreal: guy, who is not exactly man, artist, who does not exactly sing, scenic images that are borrowed from others, life hidden under mask. What to do, if you want to be married another guy, but your State is against? Is it possible to be together and to perform as a travesty if it's practically forbidden in your country?

Returning The Names 2025

Since 2020 organizers of “Returning the Names” have been repeatedly denied authorization. In Moscow, the main public readings are effectively banned, formally due to lingering COVID-era restrictions. In 2022 Russia’s Supreme Court liquidated the International Memorial, and pressure on the memory movement intensified. With mass gatherings impossible, activists seek legal ways to keep the ritual alive. “Returning the Names” is an annual commemoration in which participants read aloud the names of people executed during the Great Terror. Since 2007, thousands have joined across Russia and abroad on the eve of the Day of Remembrance for Victims of Political Repression. Traditionally Muscovites gathered at the Solovetsky Stone on Lubyanka Square, opposite the security services’ headquarters. Now the readings scatter across the city, during historical walks or in forests at mass graves. With no publicity, amid fear and the risk of prosecution, dozens take part, and their number keeps growing.

On the Alleys of the Central Park

For several decades, the Central Park of Culture and Recreation named after Gorky (or abbreviated CPKiO) was for the Soviet people a kind of "factory of happiness", a model of a "bright future", or "paradise on earth". Time passed. Different political winds blew in the country, slogans and portraits of leaders changed at mass celebrations, sculptures on alleys changed ... Gradually it turned from a "factory of happiness" into a banal "place of leisure", and by the beginning of the XXI century it finally became dilapidated. Today, the old park is actively changing, being reconstructed, trying to adapt to the needs and demands of the new time. At the same time, it is important not to forget that the CPKiO was the product and evidence of a terrible, but very significant era. And to erase her traces does not mean to get rid of her complexes at all
