Voices from Ukraine

For Out of Frame’s 27th film talk, we took the opportunity to shine a light on the ongoing, unrightful and terrible war in Ukraine while showcasing the work of four amazing filmmakers and artists from Ukraine, who now make their voices heard in Ireland. This was the first Out of Frame session to be recorded. With the war entering its forth year, we decided to turn 'Voices of Ukraine' into a feature length documentary. The audio recorded from our Out of Frame session is featured alongside footage from the rally in support of Ukraine that took place in Cork city, on the Eve of the four year anniversary of the Russian full scale invasion, The Greater Chornobyl Cause annual Chornobyl commemorative service held in Bishop Lucey Park and new interviews from local Ukranian artists / activists.

Stone Age Temple Mystery

On a remote hillside in modern-day Turkey sits Göbekli Tepe, the oldest temple on Earth. For centuries, archaeologists believed it was a religious center built by nomadic hunter-gatherers before the rise of civilization. But groundbreaking new evidence reveals that a sophisticated community of settled hunter-gatherers, not nomads, lived here year-round for centuries. This startling discovery could be the missing link in humanity's momentous transition from hunting to farming. Follow experts as they use new digs and shattered skulls to piece together a captivating story that could forever change our understanding of the roots of civilization.

Особые

This summer, a camp opens in a Yaroslavl village at an Orthodox community, where teenagers and families with special needs children live together for several weeks. Everyday life here includes prayers and services, chores and saunas, hikes and campfire songs. Teenagers take a break from their devices and learn to care for others, special needs children experience socializing outside the family, and their mothers are able to share the burden of care for the first time in their lives. Shared work and simple forms of happiness form a shared life, erasing the boundaries between "strong" and "weak," between those who help and those in need. All that remains is life: challenging, but full of love.

Zitai

There are personalities who, by their very presence, bring people together to revive and nurture the memory and identity of a nation. Zita Kelmickaitė was one such person. This is a journey to Lithuania in the 1980s and 1990s, when the revival of folk songs became a silent weapon and an important part of the road to independence. Using previously unseen archival material and the voice of Zita Kelmickaitė herself, the film reveals not only the phenomenon of her personality, but also the history of an entire generation that cherished national identity.

Now, Irving Rapper

Irving Rapper is, in many ways, Hollywood's forgotten man. After getting his start as a "dialogue director" at Warner Bros. in the mid 30's, he became synonymous with the studio's "women's pictures" and rose in prominence as one of Bette Davis's most consistent collaborators, including on her biggest commercial success, Now Voyager (1942). He was a rebel who led the studio in suspensions for chronically refusing to direct the scripts handed to him by the brass, waiting instead for material that better suited his interests and thematic preoccupations. He was also one in a secretive fraternity of gay directors who had to conceal their identities and shield their private lives from potential public ruination. Daniel Kremer takes you through an unexamined and misunderstood life of a man of great artistic inclination who expressed his innermost yearnings covertly through his work in motion pictures.

Itam: A Sun Bear Story

Three years in the making, this remarkable documentary was filmed entirely in Sabah, Malaysia. It follows the rehabilitation and release of a rescued sun bear named Itam. Developed in close collaboration with the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, the production was granted rare access to archival records, veterinary logs, field operations, and the complete rewilding process. This access allows the film to move beyond surface observation into deeply-researched, character-driven storytelling. Combining immersive cinematic language with investigative scientific inquiry, ITAM: A SUN BEAR STORY positions Southeast Asian conservation stories within global discourse.

Prophet of Ecstasy

THE PROPHET OF ECSTASY explores themes of art, politics and consciousness through the improbable life of Michael Clegg, the former Catholic priest who introduced MDMA to the world - a drug he would later dub ‘Ecstasy’. The documentary will take viewers on a wild ride, from Clegg’s life as an MDMA drug kingpin, to his present-day transformation as an enlightened yogi. It also examines how the destinies of Michael Clegg, chemist Carina Leveriza, and psychedelics advocate Rick Doblin, are inexorably bound with that of the socio-cultural explosion of MDMA through its epic journey of discovery, criminalization, and re-emergence from the shadows.
