Terdedah: 7 Artists in Search of a Cover

Shahnon Ahmad's novel Terdedah (1965) has not been reprinted in decades. This rambunctious satire is about a young widow with two lovers. Why hasn't the book been seen for so long? Did it "dedah" (reveal or expose) too much? Amir Muhammad asks seven artists how they would design a cover of Terdedah if it were reprinted today. Through Zoom, they discuss how the novel can be presented visually. In an unfortunate twist, one of the artists disappeared after agreeing. So this artist is replaced by ChatGPT. The six human artists are Anderson Ee, Fahmi Mustaffa, Hannah, Mark Lee See Teck, Syuq Tone and Yante Ismail.

Frog Safari

Over the past year, three young scientists have found unusual colored frogs in the wild in Latvia that are not typical for our region. A green frog with unusual orange and black coloring—seen for the first time—as well as a strange red frog. Scientists are trying to determine the cause – whether these are "natural errors" in a few specimens, or whether the entire frog population is affected – with environmental pollution being cited as one of the reasons. In a parallel story the scientists are conducting research on the restored tree frog population, observing the results of a project implemented in the 1990s – at that time, the extinct tree frog species was successfully restored and is once again found on the Kurzeme coast.

Bürglkopf

The film captures the ambivalent nature of the Tyrolean landscape around the Bürglkopf mountain. The idyll of Alpine nature, grazing cattle, babbling brooks, and breathtaking panoramas is disrupted by the knowledge that there is a refugee centre at the top of the mountain. Unauthorized entry is prohibited, contact with people inside is undesirable, and cameras are completely denied access behind the walls. The strict regime that asylum seekers must adhere to guarantees them only one thing: a minimal chance of remaining in the safety of Austria.

Derniers soins

While everyone wants to die "at home" without suffering and surrounded by loved ones, in reality almost everyone dies in hospital. What healthcare provisions enable people to die at home? Are we all equal in terms of the support we receive, regardless of where we live? Young caregivers in a home hospitalization unit drive day and night along the Alabaster Coast. From house to house, from dying person to dying person. Accompanying a dying person at home also means accompanying their loved ones, immersing oneself for a few days or weeks in the intimacy of a family history. Thanks to them, the end of life returns to the home, to the family, and is rehumanized.

Bourvil : le rire et la tendresse

Can you become a star without being a loudmouth? Absolutely, and Bourvil is proof of that. This discreet artist had many talents: he was both an actor and a singer, with equal success and enjoyment. First noticed for his songs and sketches, in which he created the character of the village idiot, he learned through experience the art of creating characters who were naive, certainly, but increasingly subtle. We propose to look back on the all too brief life of this man who was as endearing as he was discreet.
