Sergei is sensitive and introspective; he truly cares about his family, community and treats nature with the utmost respect. He loves the independence and freedom this life brings, despite the immense sacrifices that it necessitates, such as total isolation and being a stranger to his own children. Spectacular camerawork characterizes the Sakha horses in all their magnificence, and juxtaposes the post-soviet towns and the boundless taiga landscapes, where the cold bites through the screen.

He opened his own film company in his father's garage, shot a short film that won at various Russian and international film festivals and was shown from Canada to New Zealand. Now he is the most promising young film director in Yakutia, hunted by Moscow agencies and producers. But he is not going anywhere and continues to create his own cinema in a remote Yakut village.

Twelve years ago Anya and Zhenya had a daughter, Nadya. They were very young, and their life soon became a problem. Zhenya ended up in jail, and Anya and Nadya ended up living with Zhenyas family. During most of the twelve years Anya has worked with Zhenyas mother in their shoemaker’s workshop. Zhenyas father, a retired policeman, has come and gone in the shop, taken care of his granddaughter, but also had a relationship with Anya. When Sasha, Zhenya’s father, beats Anya and ends up in prison, Anya finally leaves Zhenyas family.

Nadia Kuznetsova is 28 years old, she lives in Veliky Novgorod, graduated from school and University here, and dreams of going to the sea - and getting her fingers back. Nadia has a rare genetic disease-epidermolysis bullosa, which is called "butterfly syndrome". The patient's skin is injured by any touch. The disease is incurable: as Nadia herself says, "I don't fight it – I live with it." She is fighting for something else - to lead the life of an ordinary person.

The Marem Group is a team of volunteers helping victims of domestic violence in the North Caucasus, Russia. It was created in 2020 by Dagestani journalist Svetlana Anokhina. After their shelter was raided by a joined team of Chechen and Dagestani cops, they had to leave Russia. But Svetlana continues to evacuate girls. The documentary traces these runaways on different phases of evacuation – from their republics to the long process of rehabilitation in other countries. But abusers threaten not only girls. Members of the Marem Group are not safe even outside Russia. They can also become runaways at any moment.

"Three Interviews." This is from my archives, a TV shoot with Dima Frolov, 1994. Part one: my interview with Vlad for St. Petersburg TV. This interview is listed first because it's being published online for the first time. Part two: Vlad interviews Viktor Tuzov, and part three: Vlad interviews Timur Novikov (we filmed these two interviews for Tatyana Didenko's program "Silence 9"). I've already published the last two interviews online, but I decided to combine all three now—for friends, a chance to mentally transport myself back to those wonderful times when it seemed nothing could foreshadow disaster (at that point, Viktor was already terminally ill, but it was perceived as something extraordinary—an accident, an evil fate, the fate of one man).

A film must confront the world in which it is made, but also the one in which it is shown. When Vadim Kostrov accompanied young couple Katya and Kostya to a nearby lake, and filmed them with the directness for which he is known, he couldn’t foresee the political implications of these images. At the time Kostya was about to join the Russian military – a decision he came to regret later on. It’s breathtaking to witness the film’s playful innocence, while at the same time measuring every word against the destructive nature of war – yet the film outlines more than a political parable: Kostrov reflectively turns towards the few hours of light in the face of an impending darkness, which linger too briefly.

1962 year. Cuban Missile Crisis. The world is on the brink of nuclear disaster. Khrushchev has no leverage over the stubborn commander. The only thing he could do was send someone to Cuba whom he trusted, someone who could convince Castro. This person was Anastas Mikoyan. He was accompanied on his mission by Roman Carmen, a legendary cameraman who filmed the Spanish Civil War, World War II and the Nuremberg Trials. Mikoyan's business trip lasted almost a month. Day after day, step by step, like a real psychologist, he talked with Castro and Che Guevara, listened to their calls to "die beautifully" and destroy the enemy with one blow, and tried to persuade Cuba to compromise to save the world. This film was born thanks to recently declassified documents.

Yuri Afanasyevich, or simply Afanasyich, as everyone calls him, is 77 years old. He lives in the Irkutsk region. For twenty years, every winter Afanasyich goes to the taiga and spends three or four months there. He is a wolfman. His task is to catch wolves with the help of traps. So he protects not only deer and roe deer, but also domestic animals. In recent years, wolf packs have managed to eat whole herds of livestock over the winter. Afanasyich is a loner. He knows everything about wolves. And, it seems, the wolves already smell Afanasievich's approach. As soon as he appears in one of his taiga time zones, the wolves leave. "In order to fight wolves, you have to be a little wolf yourself," Afanasich believes.

The film is about a man whose works and the name itself have been under a strict ban for a long time. Ivan Solonevich is a Russian thinker, politician, writer, publicist and at the same time an outstanding athlete, vice-champion of the Russian Empire, one of the creators of the Sambo wrestling. All the activities of Solonevich, all his energy were directed to the fight against the inhuman system of power that arose in Russia after 1917.

The idea to make a film about geek-culture took root when Alexandra Pustynnova attended Comic Con Russia. Filmed on the outskirts of Moscow, the role-playing game “Deadland” takes place in a Wild West-like world with elements of alternative history, steampunk, and horror.

This is a story about the Russian Munchausen, who builds a windmill in his yard and raises beehives with bees on the roof, because in nature bees live in hollows of trees. The wife then argues, then agrees, is engaged in children and economy and assures that he lives in paradise. And sometimes she plays the piano - with her eyes closed. The village around is empty - almost all residents have moved to cities or died - our heroes live like on an island. And the children clean the sewers, learn English and German and are growing up before our eyes ...

The main characters of the film are Zinedine Zidane and Marco Materazzi, participants in the most scandalous episode in the history of football. During extra time of the final match of the 2006 World Cup, pitting France against Italy, the French leader, superstar Zidane, for some unknown reason took a running start and head-butted Materazzi in the chest. Zidane was sent off the field and, as a result, the French lost the match on penalties. This head-butt and the unexpected loss were now bound together in the minds of sports fans forever. But the burning question - why did it happen? – has never been properly answered. After thoroughly studying the lives of the participants in this match, the filmmakers reveal an amazing story: The 2006 World Cup appears to us in the form of a play “directed by the Creator”.

Konstantin Stupin or just Stupa - rock-n-roller from Orel. He is 44 years old, we take him out of the madhouse and start making a film. Stupa in the last years of the existence of the USSR, as a schoolboy, decided to make music. He became the leader of the Oryol group Night cane: performances at school with songs about hell, sex, drugs, with texts like “take the Communist Party forgotten by everyone, drop two letters and get the SS”. Then the big scenes of the city and, as a result, the “Festival of Hopes”, organized by Artemy Troitsky, where the Night Cane, being the only non-Moscow group, receives a prize of audience sympathy. The texts for the festival have already become different, much deeper and more serious, but with constant protest in content and form.

A video comic based on a montage of old footage from a Ural factory using computer graphics and flash animation. If the first part is a bit reminiscent of crazy Soviet documentary propaganda, the second part takes us to an alternative reality, populated by revived phantoms of the magazine "Krokodil": freeloaders, alcoholics, abstract artists and other nonconformists. The main character, Barkhatov, is a superman on a mission to fight the enemies of the working class.

The film is dedicated to the work of the poet Velemir Khlebnikov, a story about Kalmykia, the poet's birthplace, where many of his prophecies are fulfilled.
