My Name Is Kim

Kim Jae-pil, who participated in the Korean War as a member of the North Korean People's Army, saved the life of Ward Miller, a U.S. fighter pilot who was the enemy. The two hid in the mountains and shared life, death and friendship for 15 days. Finally, they were rescued by a U.S. military helicopter. Ward Millar was repatriated to the United States and Kim Jae-pil was sent by the U.S. military to the U.N. as a prisoner of war as he was dressed as a member of the North Korean People's Army. Ward Miller, who returned to the U.S. at the end of the war, found Kim Jae-pil and sent him a letter. Kim Jae-pil and Ward Millar exchanged letters in Korea and the U.S. respectively and shared deep friendships, but at some point, their letters were cut off for unknown reasons.

Synced Together: AMVs & Their Editors

Synced Together is the first, feature-length documentary to explore the phenomenon of AMVs and demonstrate their importance in the lives of editors and fans alike. Long-time AMV editors ourselves, our goal is to reveal the overwhelming impact of AMVs by taking an intimate, anthropological look into the global AMV community. Audiences get to connect with editors on a personal level as they share their experiences and navigate convention life. Still, our belief is that Synced Together‘s most one-of-a-kind quality is something else entirely, though some things are better seen than told.

Moskus - Fortelling om et bilde

The artist Sverre Malling is known for his allegories and his way of implementing motif elements from Norwegian culture in a different context. He made himself even better known outside the art community as the signer in the July 22 trial. In this film, the creators have followed and observed Malling in the creation of the giant work of art «Norwegian muskox»: a drawing of a muskox. We follow every stroke of the canvas in a fascinating study of both the work of art and Malling as an artist, and the great detail work and focus one can have on a project over such a long period of time. The muskox is a slow animal and the film is a tribute to the slowness, which gives a pleasant and meditative pace to the film.

Becoming Plant

Becoming Plant follows six dancers who participate in a therapeutic group experiment with psychedelics, while temporarily ‘living’ together on the demilitarised industrial site. While they are subjected to the plant’s consciousness and to each other’s presence, they perform a choreography, aligning their naked bodies with each other and with the architectural ruins. The film serves as a catalyst to discuss wider social and relational issues such as science, spirituality, psychiatry, healing, healthcare and the problems of collective depression and trauma resulting from living in the age of Late Capitalism. Becoming Plant features a specially composed soundtrack by London based electronic musician and visual artist Gaika.

This is [Not] Who We Are

Explores the gap between Boulder, Colorado’s progressive self-image and the lived experiences of its small but resilient Black community by featuring Zayd Atkinson, a university student performing his work study job cleaning up the grounds of his dorm when he was threatened by a police officer and, soon, by eight officers with guns drawn. He lived to tell the story many Black men don't survive to tell. While it has a unique history, Boulder is emblematic of liberal, white, university-based communities that profess an inclusive ethic but live a segregated reality. The film explores the interconnected issues of land use, affordability, racial and class-based segregation, educational equity, and policing.
