Lobanov

The 2021 Duma elections made Mikhail Lobanov a recognizable Moscow politician. The 37-year-old mathematician, lecturer at the Moscow State University, has long been involved in social activities: ten years ago he opposed political agitation at the university, participated in the creation of an independent association of university employees to protect their rights, and was almost fired for his activism. In 2021 elections, Lobanov ran for the Communist Party (he is not a member of the party, calls himself a democratic socialist) and waged a powerful grassroots campaign against the pro-government candidate, TV presenter Yevgeny Popov.

Minus Two

A couple of filmmaking friends decide to work together and choose "walruses" - lovers of winter swimming and tempering — as the theme of their new work. And although it is not so difficult to establish contact with them, questions about how deeply a person can penetrate into the community from the outside arise again and again, as well as about which way of representation would be the most appropriate. One thing clings to the other, and now, thanks to the walrus clubs in Strogino and Shchukino, new arguments about why to make a movie are surfacing.

Azov Brain Rot

On August 14, the "Azov Brain Rot" documentary premiered. The film features exclusive footage and eyewitness accounts, as well as filmed testimonials by captured Azov militants and foreign mercenaries who surrendered in Mariupol. In addition, the film contains expert commentary and accounts of the civilians who were tortured and humiliated by neo-Nazis. The documentary elaborates on the ideology of nationalist battalions as well as their neo-pagan beliefs and the widespread use of Nazi symbols. The film’s creator, journalist, and television host Marina Kim visited the detention facilities where Azov members were being held captive in Yelenovka (DPR), days before the Ukrainian Army attack using a HIMARS multiple rocket launcher. The attack killed more than 50 prisoners of war.

God Eats Love

When Maria Alekhina and other members of the Pussy Riot group were tried for an action in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, Orthodox activist Dmitry Enteo strongly advocated punishing the girls. Now Alekhina and Enteo spend a lot of time together. Last week, with activists from The Other Russia, they went to the Ministry of Justice to conduct a public Bible reading — as a demonstration of their constitutional right to read the Holy Scriptures (and any other books) in public — without permission from officials.

A film about the life and work of cinematographer Sergei Astakhov, who has directed more than seventy full-length films, including the cult films “Brother” and “Brother-2”, the public’s favorite film “In Love of His Own Will”, and the most complex films of recent times – “Salute” -7”, “Heart of Parma” and many others. The secret of Astakhov’s success is a unique combination of artistic intuition with the talent of an engineer-inventor. The film shows Astakhov in a variety of manifestations: on the set, and during the construction of his house, and during the construction of a chapel, and at a children's Christmas party. And everywhere he is invariably charming with his energy and love of life!

Collecting Shadows

This is a kind of memory of memories. The trip is enclosed in three conditional spaces: abandoned in an empty field - a hostel for internally displaced persons who exist outside the present and future, with a scattered, burned past. Cold twilight Moscow with a Chechen guy wandering along its streets, vocalist of the Dead Dolphins band, Arthur, who recalls his once beloved city, but does not want to return and see the place where his house used to be. Exhausted, abandoned by the souls that once inhabited it, the city of Grozny, to which, for the first time after the war, a Russian girl comes to see her native home, return to her childhood and "die in it", saying goodbye to him forever for all those who lost their home and homeland.

Lobachevsky Space

This is a picture about the creator of non-Euclidean or hyperbolic geometry, the Russian mathematician Nikolai Lobachevsky, and his scientific discoveries. The scientist is widely known for showing that Euclid's fifth postulate about parallel lines may not be respected. Nikolai Lobachevsky was also a successful rector of Kazan University. A living portrait of a mathematician who lived in the XIX century appears in the form of observations of experts from Berlin, Göttingen and Kazan, demonstrating the impact of his discoveries on modern science.

The Carriage is Served

The rally in support of Alexei Navalny was initially called for in the center of Moscow, on Lubyanskaya Square, but the authorities blocked all approaches to it. Then some of the demonstrators went to the Matrosskaya Tishina pre-trial detention center, where Navalny was. The police hunted them, cutting off individual groups and using force. Over one and a half thousand people were detained. Two days later, on February 2, the court changed Navalny's suspended sentence to a real one - two years and eight months in prison. On the same evening new protests began.

Gora

Gora is a frail middle-aged woman who works as a janitor in one of the sleeping areas of Rostov-on-Don. She has neither a residence permit nor a medical policy, and in order to somehow save money, she lives with a friend in a barracks for 500 rubles. The two-storey densely populated hut survived only because it stood in the landfill for its entire history. People have been living here for more than forty years. They grow geese and goats in summer kitchens, boil themselves, drink, love, die. A nunnery is located a hundred meters from the barracks. There are 15 girls of all ages in it, in essence, this is the same barrack, only completely whitewashed and surrounded by a brick fence. They say the abbess is a former prison guard. Passion is no worse than in the cool Mexican series.
