After years of touring together, the Berlin supergroup “Moderat” decided in 2017 to go on a (recently terminated) hiatus. “The Last Days” portrays the three protagonists of “Intelligent Dance Music” at their most human. Black and white images taken around their last concert tour serve as a projection surface for off-screen interviews in which Sascha, Szary and Gernot describe each other, allowing deep insights into their artistic dynamics.

It's quite plain to 7 year old Nori: She is a girl, because she has a girl's heart. But her body is that of a boy ... Five years ago: Each and every day mother and son argue about what appears trivial: the colours of pants and shirts suddenly matter, soon all he agrees to wear are skirts and dresses, he likes to put barrettes in his still short hair. The neighbours start gossiping. Then one day, the boy reveals his favourite dream to his mum. A wizard will turn his penis into a vagina so he could be a "real" girl

As a child Ibrahim Arslan survived the arson attack on his parents’ home in Mölln in which three members of his family were killed. Today he says that his family suffered not just one, but two attacks. After the Molotov cocktails had burnt out, the Arslan family became a target of attacks again, this time coming from the media, politics and society. These attacks were worse than the incendiary devices because they could have been avoided, Arslan says. In her film, Mala Reinhardt asks why even today many victims of radical right-wing violence are forced to live through the same experience of being treated with hostility and criminalised. The victims, who have formed a network, analyse with impressive clarity which conditions make racism still socially acceptable in our country. The essential thing now is to listen to them. German Chancellor Angela Merkel condemned far-right protesters who were "hunting down" foreigners in street mobs following the killing of a German man, allegedly by a Syrian and an Iraqi. The far-right movement PEGIDA called for demonstrations for a second straight day after a gathering of around 800 people in the city of Chemnitz in the country's ex-communist east degenerated into violent chaos, forcing police to call in reinforcements.

Some only in half because their father left for the West. Depending on their family background, they want or should help build the new, better Germany.
