The invernaderos (as they are called in Spanish) cover upwards of 150 square miles and are visible by the naked eye from space. A large proportion of Europe's vegetables and fruit is intensively farmed here. A huge amount of plastic waste is created each year, estimated to be more than 30000 tons. These hot houses are staffed by an army of African migrants working in extreme heat conditions in the summer months.
