Nolaupīt Vosu

The end of the 1970s. The Soviet Union is in a state of stagnation and apathy during the Brezhnev era. Ethnic and social tensions are simmering. An armed group of young people appears in Latvia, wanting to fight Soviet rule using guerrilla tactics. They blow up railways, carry out armed attacks, and intimidate KGB informants. The most daring plan of the young people is to track down and kidnap Augusts Voss, the leader of the Communist Party of the Latvian SSR at the time. The USSR State Security Committee called them the Zilberts gang. How should we evaluate the activities of a group whose actions, both then and now, can be considered criminal offenses? Bandits or partisans? This case goes beyond the bounds of conformity and nonviolent resistance, which is precisely why we decided to tell its story.

Speaking of Pink

Four elderly LGBTQ+ individuals come together in a bright pink space. In this space, which is as much a living room as it is an archive, they share their life stories with each other. The short film is a hopeful, imaginative documentary about reclaiming spaces where the identity of older LGBTQ+ individuals is not accepted. It gives an insight into the LGBTQ+ history of Rotterdam through the stories of four elderly people: lesbian activist Nell Broekhuizen, trans man Jos Niesing and married couple Tonny van Dijk, a heterosexual woman, and Arie van Dijk, a gay man. Although the stories of the four main characters seem very different at first glance, they clearly have one thing in common. Nell, Jos, Tonny and Arie have all had to search for a space in which they could be themselves. All four have had to transform traditional norms around family, faith and marriage to find space for their identity.

Ode to Loneliness

A woman lives alone in a hotel room. Dreaming of the city, she gets lost in its intricacies, etching her skin silently, chiseling at the limit of her consciousness, reconstructing her image. Slowly she grows older. Slowly she films herself, the city, and her dreams for a month. With some objects, a routine, and a deep desire to feel, she escapes. The night comes silently, a door opens, and she walks away. The house is a body that flies. This is her journey from loneliness to aloneness.

Heavenly and Harrowing

A film by Lucy Cordes Engelman and Annemarie Wadlow, Two amateur filmmakers attempt to make a love poem inspired by the Devotional Cinema of Nathaniel Dorsky. Can paying homage be considered the ultimate poetic gesture? Is it the ultimate act of love? Using the medium of analogue film as their compass, artists Annemarie Wadlow and Lucy Cordes Engelman collaborate for the first time to explore the devotion of 'the amateur' home-movie maker in contrast to the professional filmmaker. Via the ever-morphing heavenly and harrowing nature of the cinematic image, and inspired by the philosophies of avant-garde filmmaker Nathaniel Dorsky, the film explores relationships that are formed by referencing, acknowledging, and celebrating the work of others who have come before.

Great To Know You - a documentary

'Great To Know You - a documentary' is an intimate behind-the-scenes portrait of Milow's most recent album 'Nice To Meet You' and the ‘Great To Know You EP’, featuring live studio footage and interviews with those who know him best. The documentary examines the close bond that Milow has with his fans and for the first time gives a glimpse of his personal life, as an example, revealing that he has 2 young children. In 'Great To Know You' the viewer discovers why Milow chooses to sing and talk about his personal life. The death of his drummer Oscar Kraal forced Milow to shift his focus and allow his private life more clearly into his songs. The film was made by Lieven Bulckens, a childhood friend of Milow, and that personal connection brings the viewer close to the singer-songwriter's creative process and his life in Belgium and Los Angeles.
