Paper Knight

The people of Kharkiv saw death and horror. They looked them straight in the face. Some lost relatives, others lost their homes, their streets, their past, their memories. But Kharkiv residents still have the strength to fight. To gather to read poetry, to discuss writers, to sing lullabies. The main character Roman is a Kharkiv resident, who is madly in love with poetry. And he carries his love for it-sometimes senselessly, rightly, for no reason, like Don Quixote, like a madman, like a real Paper Knight.

Stone Town

The easternmost fishing town in China sits on the cusp of radical change, as this quietly devastating film details. Once a major hub for the Chinese fishing industry, Stone Town is facing seismic change. With its economic bedrock at risk, the small, secluded town is turning towards tourism as a way to support its local population. Jing Guo and Dingding Ke’s film balances intimate portraits of the townsfolk, whose lives are impacted by the coming change, with a wider perspective on the modernisation project driven by Xi Jinping’s government. The filmmakers capture the anxiety, sorrow and confusion of the people, in tandem with a perspective on a burgeoning environmental crisis, the ramifications of political turbulence and injustice at the way rapid modernisation impacts everyday lives. Stone Town is a compelling portrait of a world where feelings of despair and frustration are drowned by late-night drinks and non-stop karaoke singing in dingy bars.

Georgswerder - Ein "Dorf" mitten in Hamburg

Georgswerder is a small "underdeveloped" district in Hamburg, Germany. This film follows four residents to explore the problems and potentials of the neighborhood - and uses hybrid animation to make their visions come to life. This is a commissioned work by Studio Ranokel for "Q8". Q8 does social work in the context of neighborhood development. The film portrays Georgswerder and its challenges in order to make it more visible in general AND specifically for Q8 to have something to show to potential partners that might not be very familiar with Georgswerder.
