Doctor on Display: The Museum of Classic Sci-Fi

In the early 1970s, the BBC decided to launch a series of exhibitions featuring monsters and props from Doctor Who. Over the next three decades, untold thousands of children (and adults too!) were thrilled by a mix of innovative, exciting and stunning extravaganzas! For many fans, these exhibitions were their first and only real chance to get close-up to their favourite TV programme … and the memories they share in this innovative documentary series are bound together by interviews with experts and people who actually worked at them! The museum re-opened in 2021 after extensive restoration work and we tell the story of that opening … and the incredible journey that led to that memorable day!

Lion Man: Gino Bartali - The War Years

Gino Bartali’s legacy endures far beyond his three Giro d’Italia and two Tour de France victories. He was a true hero of cycling, but it was only after his death that it became known that he was also a genuine war hero. He rarely spoke about the sacrifice he had made, and very few people knew that he had smuggled fake identity papers for Italian Jews in his bicycle frame. During his daily "training rides" on the gravel roads between Florence and Assisi, he repeatedly put himself in danger.

Benedikt

Benedikt is a farmer in a small village in the Palatinate Forest who lives off agriculture and beekeeping and has never left his hometown. The documentary follows Benedikt in his working and living environment, exploring the relationship between tools, the body, and the material world, in a sensual, haptic exchange, influenced by Hartmut Rosa’s concept of resonance: what might a resonant relationship to the world look like? The notion of listening gives an important clue: listening to the world as a whole, hearing voices other than human ones. Benedikt is a quiet, documentary portrait that gives the viewers time to reflect on themes such as life plan, loneliness, connections, and romance.

Lookalikes are as much part of Indian popular cinema’s romance with stardom as the super celebrities they – sometimes more and sometimes less – resemble. The Juniors, as they’re popularly referred to, live a paradoxical existence all of their own: if one meets Kishore Bhanushali on the streets, it's like time is out of joint, for he looks like Golden Age-icon Dev Anand – in the 1960s! It’s fitting that Bhanushali is also a stand-up comedian, as the Juniors are in equal parts paeans to and parodies of the original stars. The Juniors even have their own films, which are often satirical revisions of beloved classics.
