Mr. & Mrs. Fish Present The Treasure in the Eel's Cave

"A fun-filled story for young children explaining how the shape of fish help them to survive and adapt to their surroundings in the ocean. Children will laugh as they learn, watching the zany duo of "Mr. & Mrs. Fish" fool a hungry, bumbling, big fish. They are successful thanks to the help of a jolly pirate, a wizard, a balloon man, and an Italian chef. Live footage of sea creatures, a lot of bad jokes, and wonderful musical score by recording artists "Schooner Fare" add to the merriment."

Monte Carlo Rally 1988

In 1988, the scene was set for a showdown between the Martini Lancia team that had dominated 1987, and the rejuvenated Mazda team wanting to forget a disappointing season. While the works Lancia Delta HF 4WDs of Bruno Saby and Miki Biasion led the way, the Mazda 323s of Timo Salonen, Hannu Mikkola and Ingvar Carlsson were in trouble - diesel-contaminated fuel ruining their effort. When Biasion retired, the Lancias of Group N Champion Alessandro Fiorio and Yves Loubet joined the battle for victory. Loubet's luck ran out with the end in sight, his Lancia crashing into retirement. Behind Saby and the Jolly Club-backed Delta of Fiorio, Jean-Pierre Ballet's Peugeot 205 GTi took unexpected third. Incredibly, former World Champion Salonen recovered from 42nd to take fifth, just behind the battle-scarred Renault 11 Turbo of Alain Oreille. Enjoy incredible action, interviews with the stars and some spectacular 'moments' in these excellent highlights.

Out of the Mouth of Babes

This video proposes an ironic metaphor to grasp the follies of U.S. government action and inaction in Central America. The process of learning U.S. policy is similar to the process of a young child acquiring the principles of language. These dual senses of literacy operate on several levels, situating a child’s consciousness within the contradictions of history comments on the illusory innocence of childhood, and the unexamined, but real, guilt of the U.S. government, its supporters and clients.

Test for Adults

This film is the second installment (of five) of Igor Shadkhan and Svetlana Voloshina’s project Test for Adults (the first 16-year television observation of children and their parents in the USSR, 1978-1994). There are six television short stories, each dedicated to one of the children who are 10 years old at the time of shooting: Artyom, Julia, Pavel, Alyosha, Sveta, and Alexey. The authors are interested in the psychological portrait of children. The intimate nature of the interview and the delicacy of the interviewer allows them to touch upon difficult topics – loneliness in the hospital, the child’s experiences of parental divorce, the existential fears of children, leadership, attitudes, etc.

Nisei Soldier: Standard Bearer for an Exiled People

Nisei Soldier focuses on the heroism of American men of Japanese ancestry who fought bravely during World War II, despite the intense moral dilemmas they faced. Leaving their families imprisoned in "relocation centers", many young Nisei (second generation American-born Japanese) proved their loyalty in WWII by enlisting in the all-Japanese American 442nd Infantry Regiment which fought in Europe. Because of the Regiment's incredible bravery in battle, liberation of French towns, and high casualty rate, it became the most decorated unit in U.S. military history. The film asks: What sustained these young men forced to battle on two fronts at once -- against fascism abroad and intense prejudice at home? More than a war story, Nisei Soldier is a tale about personal honor, family loyalty and love of country -- and what it means to be an American.

Arsenal: Season Review 1986-1987

The 1986-87 season saw the return to Arsenal of their former player George Graham as manager. Graham had been appointed just after the end of the previous season as successor to Don Howe who had resigned in late March. He had been a member of Arsenal's double winning team in 1971, but Arsenal had gone since 1979 without winning a major trophy, finishing seventh in the two seasons leading up to Graham's arrival and finishing as low as 10th in 1983. Arsenal started the season well and were top of the league by Christmas, but a 10-match winless run went against their title hopes in the second half of the season and they eventually finished fourth, with Everton finishing champions for the second time in three seasons. Compensation for the failed title bid came in the form of the club's first ever Football League Cup victory, which came with a 2-1 win over Liverpool in the Wembley final. Charlie Nicholas scored both of Arsenal's goals.

Donner Pass

Donner Pass – the name evokes daunting obstacles with good reason. Steep grades and seven months a year of winter weather put a railroad's resources to the test. Yet the need to transport goods over the Sierras produces a nonstop parade of trains over this famous line, and that was especially true in 1988 when Video Rails captured incredible Southern Pacific action over Donner Pass. Starting at the classification yards in Roseville, California, you'll follow Southern Pacific's trains up and over "The Hill." SP's 6-axle SD40s, SD40T-2s, SD45s, and SD45T-2 tackle 138 miles of up to 2.4 percent grades. Up to 11 units are needed for the climb. The standard arrangement for these 10,000-ton trains is 4 by 6, with four engines leading and 6 mid-train helpers, but you'll also see long trains with six units leading, six mid-train helpers, and an end-of-train helper.

The Dancing Soul of the Walking People

Shot at Coney Island, New York's legendary amusement park, over two years from 1974-1976, this beautiful landmark of American experimental film languished in semi-obscurity for three decades after its 1980 debut. Restoration was a complex process involving algorithmic computer programming deployed to synchronise sound with images originally recorded (on monochrome Super 8mm film!) at the unusually slow rate of 18 frames per second. The result is cinema as a miraculous time-travel machine, a city-poem which transports us to hidden corners that only a true Coney-Islander would know: a native like writer, director, producer and editor Paula Gladstone. She also arranged the soundtrack, featuring music that ranges from Duke Ellington to the Drifters ("under the board-walk, down by sea...") and, most stirringly, LaBelle.

New Zealand Rally 1987

Hot favourite for the eighth round of the World Rally Championship, to take place in New Zealand, was up-and-coming Swedish star Kenneth Eriksson in the Volkswagen Golf 16-valve GTI. Few of the major manufacturers undertook the long trip to Auckland, making the event one in which the talented youngster could acquire valuable points. This video follows his progress throughout the four days of the rally, which featured 36 special stages with exotic names such as Mystery Creek, French Pass and Rerewhakaaitu. The AWA Clarion event was supported by Ford through the Motogard Rallysport Team which entered a Sierra XR 4x4 for Stig Blomqvist, Lancia with Markkus Alen's Portuguese recce car in the hands of Franz Wittman, and Subaru, Mazda and Nissan, though not in factory-backed trim.
