He Maketh a Path to Shine After Him; One Would Think the Deep to Be Hoary

An archaeology of both the ocean and the image, this piece reworks the sequences of Leviathan that were shot in and from the sea. Projected at 1/50 of the speed at which they were recorded, it simultaneously slows movement and animates the still, revealing a liminal universe at the threshold of human vision. In this flux, one beholds a netherworld of aqueous forms that appear in one frame and disappear or transmogrify into something else in the next.

Imaginary Tales

A documentary film that can best be described as a portrait of an author about and featuring André Forcier. It is the story of an extraordinary and undeniable filmmaker in the landscape of Canadian national cinema and a pillar at the heart of its identity. It is an opportunity to relive his work, known for its strong dose of magical realism, through the reenactment of scenes from his entire filmography. It is a walk through his world, which sometimes appears like a memory, a footprint, or a recollection.

La Sorcière Blanche

In the austere "Horseshoe Cirque", attempts on ice are so impressive and require such a high degree of skill, that after a discrete beginning in 1976, there was a wait of twenty years before new pioneers dared the challenge. Each has returned, marked for life by the extraordinary experience. The opening of The White Witch in January, 2006 by Philippe Batoux, François Damilano and Benoît Robert was the occasion to revisit this emblematic site. Here is an exceptional panorama where incredible ice formations give way to challenging rocky climbs and vibrant testimonials...

Musidora, the Tenth Muse

Patrick Cazals’ film, La Dixième Muse, brings Musidora to life for the second time. The first occasion was the publication of his earlier book on the same subject with Henri Veyrier in 1978. The latter remains an essential work of reference because its author was the first person since Francis Lacassin to have surveyed Musidora’s career as a pioneering filmmaker and total artist. It includes previously undiscovered documents that are no longer accessible in their original form. This film too contains many previously unknown images found and selected by Patrick Cazals. Above all, it offers the animated image of a beauty in a close-fitting black suit, and her voice that speaks directly to us, alongside the voices of all those the director has brought together to establish a subtle bond with Musidora and bring her into our own age.

Docteur Bowie et Mister Jones

For more than four decades, David Robert Jones, alias Bowie, has established himself as a protean rock icon: an enigmatic, androgynous, pretentious, superhuman, magnificent creature... Christian Fevret, founder and former editor-in-chief of Les Inrockuptibles, conducted this rare interview, enriched with often unpublished archives, with the glam icon at the dawn of the millennium. It is a portrait that focuses on the 1970s, when the man with the mismatched eyes flirted more with the fringe and the avant-garde than with the global hits of the 1980s, such as Let's Dance.

À travers l'univers

Through the Universe is the third section of my cinematic series Mes Villes d’Habitation (My Dwelling Towns). The film represents the autopsy of Saint-Marcellin, a small village in the Isère Region where I spent my childhood during the 50s. Through the Universe displays, in alphabetical order, all the 127 streets and 17 public squares of the town (updated to the period of the shooting, in 2004-2005), all shot following the same rules: in a 20-second-long wide, static, single shot. Every vista is preceded by the sign indicating the name of the street or plaza.

Béziers, The Other Side

Structured in two parts, the film uses the municipal newspaper, Le Journal de Béziers (later renamed Le Journal du Biterrois), to examine the city's management by Robert Ménard, elected mayor in 2014 with the support of the National Rally. By meeting with residents and activists, the film reveals the "behind the scenes" of this southern French city. It shows how this newspaper shapes a political and ideological line for a fundamentalist Catholic France, rejecting Muslims, while simultaneously seeking to control and monitor all its inhabitants. A vision of the far right in power…
