I.

This series of three works is part of the “household scenes” project, a corpus in development. It is a set of vignettes, cinematographic tableaux, built around the repeated gestures of my parents' daily life. I present these scenes sometimes as sequence shots, sometimes as a succession of cut-out shots. Some depict only one parent, with particular emphasis on how he/she negotiates domestic space. With these paintings, imagined in various environments and by a treatment specific to the medium, I work to reveal the singularity of the places, the movement of the figures and the relationship between the two.

New World

Over the past two years, humanity has faced an absolutely new degree of loneliness and fear – a pandemic. Disunity or, conversely, too close contact for a long time, emotional burnout led society to collective trauma. "New World" is the story of 12 families from Moscow, Paris, St. Petersburg, New York, Kiev, Simferopol, Herat, Miami and Dublin. The characters of the film are learning to live in new conditions. We follow their transformation with the help of their own video diaries and special shooting, recording the most intimate and important events that they have lived over the past two years. For all of them, the pandemic is becoming a test of strength. Against the background of a new reality and a new world, we remember the pandemic almost with nostalgia, still feeling its consequences.

The Sprawling Octopus of an Elevated Highway

In 1968, B.K.S. Traffic Consultants proposed an elevated highway for Cork city, with over 90 acres of demolition estimated for parking clearances in the central island area. The £16.5m construction, which was due to stretch from the Port to the Courthouse, Patrick's Hill to Barrack Street, would have seen the city surrender to the motorcar. Michelle Delea's film interviews former architects of 'The City Seventy Planning Group', which emerged from the pioneering class of the Crawford School of Architecture. This group, supported by journalist Mary Leland, successfully campaigned against the B.K.S. Traffic Plan, preserving the character of the city as we know it today.

L'ombre des pères

The film follows men over several years who reach the age their father was when he died. Among these men are Cyrill Renaud, the son of filmmaker Renaud Victor, who carries the weight of an interrupted work, and Cyril Casmèze, a zoomorphic acrobat who has made working with animality a mode of protection and survival. It is an exploration of grief over the long term, a story of fathers and sons, but also a story of mothers and sons. When the father is gone, the relationship to the mother changes. The film is constructed in two chapters. One that looks back on the brutality of the loss and the trauma, the other that opens up the future, the transformation, the rebirth, now that these men have outgrown their father and allow themselves to live. A third man, Loup, joins them. He too has lost his father and "being a father in turn" has been a way to move forward.

Between The Blur

Between the Blur is a 6 minute art video that utilizes publicly listed data of coordinates of 3405 orphaned oil and gas wells within the province of Alberta, Canada. Through a fast, generative process the data is illustrated geographically and translated to other locations in an attempt to view what is generally not viewable. Translations include the city of Calgary, its downtown core, the Athabasca oilsands, the revolving coordinates around a wellhead, and to the actual locations of orphan wellsites. Patterns of movement bridge in similarity across these locations according to the original layout of orphaned wells that traverse approximately 70% of the land area in Alberta. A meditative cascading rhythm of locations occurs through an operation of scale and frequency. The video is a poetic geographic journey visually calling into question the notion of the oil and gas industry, pondering this relation to land and cityscape to which it is irrevocably tied.

Mount Tropic, A Story of the Lockdown

Agadiri and Oussama, two Moroccan friends, laze around and survive while the camera explores their bodies and faces. But things are by no means simple. Both have only been in Spain for a short period and are facing a supposedly temporary situation, which must culminate in their futures being defined in the midst of a pandemic. Filmed indoors, Monte Tropic gradually travels towards a more indefinite and dreamlike space to question the memories and desires of these young people, whose inactivity vindicates their right to be above the disastrous political use of their situation.
