David

Davide has always wanted to please and be admired. From model to Mister Sicily, today his dream comes true on the stage of a nightclub where he works as a stripper and lets himself be desired by others. Retrouvailles inconnues: Les francoqueers à Vancouver avant et après l'an 2000

Amélia, an emerging non-binary filmmaker, has been given 2 months given and a research grant to find out more about francophone queer life in western Canada. As the only participant from (what is colonially known as) British-Columbia and with only 3 weeks left, the pressure is on: Amélia rushes to find any traces of francophone queer people in Vancouver before the year 2000, the year they were born. Amidst this chaotic research effort, they find André, an older French-Canadian gay man that lived in Vancouver for 25 years. Through their conversations, Amélia unlocks André's hidden personal visual archive, that proves that, indeed, francophone queers were alive and thriving years before they were born. This documentary shows how Amélia put together a presentation about their own queer ancestors through screen capture, archival footage, interviews and narration that ends up changing their own view of themself as a queer french-canadian in the west.

Children’s Game #45: 1, 2, 3, Freeze!

Grandma’s Footsteps in Britain, Red light, green light in North America, Thunder, weather, lightning in Austria, One, two, three, ciggy forty-three in Argentina, Frozen in Mexico, Statues in Greece – all refer to a game of stealth and balance popular around the world. While some versions rely on turning around at unpredictable intervals, these London kids play it with the regularly timed cry of “One, two, three, freeze!”. The caller takes her time assessing everyone’s immobility, which ensures further wobbles. But she can only expel the most unstable, and the forwards progress won’t be stopped.

VOÏVOD: We Are Connected

From unlikely origins in northern Québec at the height of the Cold War, Voïvod’s post-apocalyptic sci-fi aesthetic, fuelled by a youthful obsession with their instruments, took them from underground success to sharing dates and tours with Iron Maiden, Rush, and Metallica. Despite adversity, and perhaps by cosmic intervention or just serendipity, Voïvod found guitarist Daniel “Chewy” Mongrain; subsequently, the band re-ignited their engines and laid a course back to Morgöth via numerous live shows around the world, a comeback album in Target Earth, singles, EPs, and finally, the late-career triumph, The Wake. In 2019, Voïvod were recognized by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences with a Juno Award for best hard rock/metal album of the year for The Wake.

Filonov

Pavel Filonov is one of the most mysterious artists of the 20th century. Filonov's contemporaries - Malevich, Kandinsky, Tatlin - are known throughout the world not only among art historians, but also to people who are even superficially interested in art. How did it happen that an artist of no lesser stature, who created an absolutely unique, inimitable style in painting, was almost unknown for decades? How did an artist who practically "reassembled" art end up being overlooked?

Tempus Fugit

The film delves into the universe of thoughts and memories of Camilo, a teenager with a muscular disorder, as he transitions into adulthood. The film's dialectic, crystallized in an extensive 16-year film record, navigates between the writing of philosophical texts and conversations he has with his friend Luis, with a critical eye toward social systems, his own relationships, and himself. His way of feeling propels the temporal leaps in one direction or another, with their drifts and reveries, similar to the ways in which memory operates. Time becomes both theme and vehicle.

Pierre Henry is not dead

A pioneer of electronic music, Pierre Henry (1927-2017) has, since the 1950s, alongside Pierre Schaeffer, laid the foundations of what characterizes the music of our time. At the time, everything had to be invented: the sounds, the tools to manipulate them, the ways of broadcasting them. He influenced the pop music of the 1960s and 1970s, from the Beatles to Pink Floyd, and up to the DJs of the 1990s. He is the author of an absolute hit: the electronic jerks composed with Michel Colombier for the 'Messe pour present time' created by Maurice Béjart in 1967. But above all he is the creator of a prolific work, from the end of the 1940s to the 2010s, where pure and incredible sound experiences coexist with musical settings of texts to constitute mock operas of a new genre. Thanks to often unpublished documents, this documentary invites us to listen to Pierre Henry tell us about his journey and above all to listen to his music, one of the most innovative of the 20th century.

The Road

The Road is a deeply personal experimental film by Jana Hammoudeh, chronicling her journey as a nomadic soul, always on the move yet never truly belonging. Shot across three separate road trips, the film blends visual poetry with intimate monologues in multiple languages, reflecting the fragmented nature of the protagonist’s life. The film’s segments—Leaving Amman, Scrambled Eggs, and Postcards to a Friend—explore themes of love, loss, and freedom. The first segment, set in Amman, presents a conflicted relationship with home, inspired by Charles Bukowski’s Let It Enfold You. The second, in French, revisits past romances, while the third, narrated in Kazakh and Urdu, contemplates departure and longing. Through dreamlike cinematography and raw reflections, The Road captures the bittersweet beauty of transient nature of life and self-discovery.

Hobby

An inspiring story about adjusting to life-altering circumstances and the saving grace of creativity and perseverance, "Hobby" is an intimate snapshot of Albino Carreira, the man and visionary behind an eccentrically decorated semi-detached house that has become a well-known and beloved Toronto landmark. The residence, which is located in the city’s Koreatown neighbourhood, captivates onlookers, evoking both bewilderment and awe with its exterior adorned in an eclectic mix of plastic bugs, seashells, coins, and other assorted knickknacks. A Portuguese immigrant, Carreira’s life was forever changed in 1993 when a workplace injury confined him to his home and left him on a permanent disability pension. He began decorating his mailbox to pass time, which eventually led him on an obsessive journey to cover every square inch of his residence with unexpected creative embellishments. This ongoing monumental project serves as a powerful expression of Carreira’s indomitable spirit.
