Mujeres en la II República: constructoras de derechos y utopías

Women who did not accept the established order. Women who participated in the creation of a fairer, more equitable world, building the world of hope we are heirs. Women whose spirits were forged by the oppression and yet took the floor. What they proclaimed has value not only for the past but for the present and the future because it represents the voice of millions of women who came together, unite and continue joining this struggle. They were not content to look, to let do or let pass; but they engaged in their daily work against injustice, misery, poverty, inequity and lack of equality. Women who have fought tirelessly for economic, social, legal and civil equality for all. Because the personal is political. So they lived so and that is why they fought participating in the construction of the Second Spanish Republic, the most democratic period of Spanish past history.

Neighbours

Wrinkled faces, an abandoned lot, a shadow engulfs a cat, two hands link, a banner announces the future… A film that seems like it might fade away at any moment, its temporality suspended: the people, at times, seem to be from another era, the frames recovered from a distant time. But we’re in the present day, in a neighborhood that threatens to disappear. Movement that is barely detained by small acts of resistance. "veCINES" is a collective film made by Laboratorio Reversible in the territory it inhabits: the Poble-sec neighborhood of Barcelona.

Julia

This film documents the extinction and abandonment of the rural world, as we know it from the eyes of its protagonist. It walks a path through Julia's life and invites spectators to embark on a slow journey between past and present; in which the decline of the Spanish fields in the last 70 years can be appreciated Hoping that the generational replacement happens and that great-grandchildren pick up the reigns to guarantee a worthy future for the rural world, Julia defends the woman's role, as historic memory and as an attention call; if we forget from where we come from, we'll never know where we are going.

Personal Narrative of a Journey to the Equinoctial Regions of the New Continent: José Lezama Lima, the hereafter thereafter

To make a film about a poet, it is necessary to move away from all cinematographic purpose, all technical language, all aestheticizing intention; we should just think like him, in terms of image and animism, of arrow and spell. The film in question will then be a tree and every facet of his work a branch, the trunk his life. Thus this incipient metaphor will evolve in the form of the film, the body of the image is henceforth encircled by the cortex of sound, whose independent relief segregates its own layers of meaning, the cavities through which the silence of an army of ants searches for its center.

Under Suspicion of Being A Communist

“If I don’t walk, I don’t make any money”. This affirmation made by Leonel Badilla gives us a view of his daily routine in which he walks the Ñunoa neighborhood every day asking for money in order to pay for his daily bread and sleeping arrangements. He must be sure to earn this money by the end of every day or run the risk of staying out on the street. His walk appears difficult and tired given his advanced age, but he has his loyal companion that accompanies him daily, his hand held radio. Leonel listens to his favorite programs by Cristobal Cohen and Marcelo Hermosilla, that accompany him on this route while he ponders ideas regarding his life: his sadly abandoned childhood, his views about the governments of Allende and Pinochet, his being detained under the “suspicion of being a communist“, and his every-day struggle to survive which he considers would have been better had it ended after the military coup d’ etat.

Cocinar Belleza

Cocinar belleza gathers a group of authorised voices with different artistic profiles around a simple question: can a flavour be beautiful? With this concept, a debate is opened, moderated by the figures of the publicist Toni Segarra and the 3-star Michelin chef, Quique Dacosta, a world reference of cutting-edge gastronomy. One of the vocations of the art is to create beauty. Paradoxically, beauty as a concept has almost never been used in conjunction with taste. Dacosta approaches each one of these artists to jointly mull over the question of whether avant garde cuisine is an artistic discipline.

Flight of the Guitar: Dreaming of Paco De Lucia

This is the story of a trip between Spain and Latin America with a unique protagonist: the last guitar designed by the genius from Algeciras, which he never had the chance to unveil to the world. From Mallorca, Jerez de la Frontera and Lisbon to the United States and Latin America, this musical instrument has been travelling, keeping alive the magic of its master, Paco de Lucía. "La Maestro" flew from hand to hand; from those of Carlinhos Brown to those of Alejandro Sanz, stopping off at Tomatito’s or those of Muñequitos de Matanzas, delivering anecdotes, nostalgia and a lot of art along the way.

Apash, los de fuera

Apash means "outsiders" in the Jivaro language. This indomitable people, who have inhabited the Amazon for some 1,200 years, have clashed with outsiders many times throughout their history, yet so far, they have neither been annihilated nor subdued. Apash is the name of the documentary's director and Antonio Abreu, a veteran and eccentric Spanish adventurer who travels along the Marañón River in the Jivaro region of the Peruvian Amazon. Through dialogue and mutual understanding, they attempt to create a documentary that will help the indigenous communities in their struggle for survival. This is a crucial moment as these communities grapple with industrial privatization and the exploitation of the Amazon rainforest.
