A Medida do Tempo

Animations (only parts in nuclei in the film) and images, many of them archival and foreign, illustrate that the notion of time is associated with movement and its measurement is performed by the rotation of the Earth around its axis and the Sun. The angle of inclination of the Earth in this last movement also marks the climatic seasons. From the need for greater accuracy in measuring time, gnomons and solar quadrants arose, for whose reading the duodecimal numbering is used. Based on this numbering, time zones and mechanical measuring devices were established, illustrated by the clock mechanism with a church bell. The evolution of astronomy determines the creation of more accurate electronic devices for the evaluation of time, such as the meridian telescope, the Markowitz chamber, the electronic oscillators and the telescope, with which astronomers work at the National Observatory.

Misérias e Grandesas de São José do Rio Preto

São José do Vale do Rio Preto, 1940. The coffee plantation is depleted, generating consequences for the region: with the decay, commercial houses are closed, railroads are removed and farms are abandoned. The former source of income for that population since the end of the 19th century has given way to poultry farming, which is gradually developing into a new economic cycle, despite the fear of those who still live in the city and in the village of Tristão Câmara.

Os Doces Bárbaros

The film records the commemorative tour of the ten years of the career of the Bahia singers Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Maria Bethânia and Gal Costa, who formed the group with the name of Doces Bárbaros (Sweet Barbarians), at the suggestion of Bethânia. Conceived to present the shows of the live album that would be released (Doces Bárbaros - Live), the documentary changed of tone when registering the arrest and judgment of Gilberto Gil and of a companion by possession of drugs. Gil was forced to go to a detox clinic, and only went out to participate in the programmed shows.

Dancing in the Street, 11 grados de separación

After having shared a common experience in Cuba, twelve filmmakers say goodbye to return to their countries and make a pact: to make a collective film that answers the questions: what does it mean to plagiarize images and how to do it in the distance? The mechanism is unusual: a director makes a short and sends it to the next director, who in turn makes his own short for the purpose of plagiarizing the one he received. And so the chain of plagiarism continues until it reaches the last one. Each one interprets in their own way what it means to plagiarize the received film. The first link in the chain is James Benning, one of the world's most patient filmmakers. His extensive plans are replicated in the following fragments. Disobedience moves the exercise away from literality and an exploration of the texture of the images begins. In its repetitive mechanism, we can see that cinema is, in addition to record of reality, an art of images and sound. (Santiago González Cragnolino)

Lacerda, The Crow of Guanabara

Juxtaposing two distinct modes of storytelling, one restrained and reverent, another energetic and dissimulated, seeking to recapitulate the plans of conspiracy and coup plotted by the former governor of Guanabara Carlos Lacerda in the backstage of the official history of Brazil using not only the archival images , but the sound of narration and incidental sound effects to characterize the change of focus and tension, as well as establishing the identities of the characters involved, namely Getúlio Vargas, Jânio Quadros, João Goulart, JK, foreign forces, Brazilian military, etc. In honoring the famous passage of the false newsreel in Glauber Rocha's "Terra in Transe" (1967), we will present the trajectory of Carlos Lacerda who, like the dictator Porfirio Diaz, from the fictional city of Eldorado, began his public life in communism but, within a few years, he became a notorious coup and conservative leader.
