Romy keeps a diary

Through a simple juxtaposition of words and images, Charles-Émile Lafrance and Romy Bélisle give us a coming-of-age story distilled to its purest components, emphasizing the essence of being aware of the passing of time. Romy Bélisle’s writing grants us access to her inner self, to the universal significance of the end of adolescence, to one world dying so that another can be born. Her words are paired with images of her last summer before heading toward adulthood, captured by a warm and discreet camera. These seemingly mundane fragments contrast with the breadth of emotions conveyed by her entries, and from this tension crystallizes the underlying goal of immortalizing what is about to disappear with the maturity and clarity we all wish we had.

The Tall Boy

Bouncing, swaying, and towering above street corners and car dealerships, the wacky, waving, inflatable figures have become global icons of attention. They've danced their way into films, cartoons, music videos, and commercials-instantly recognizable, yet mysteriously nameless to most. The Tall Boy is a riveting 20-minute investigative documentary that pulls back the nylon curtain on the unlikely invention that captured the world's gaze-and the forgotten genius behind it. Through rare footage, interviews, and deep archival dives, we uncover how one man's visionary design was swept up by commercial interests, leaving him erased from the narrative. This is not just the story of a quirky invention. It's a cautionary tale of creativity, capitalism, and greed.

Vougas of the Ria de Aveiro

“In a meeting between history and the present, this docufiction takes us on a unique journey through the Ria de Aveiro, through the curious eyes of a child who discovers, for the first time, the Vouga Class boats. Guided by an adult, a symbol of the generations that preserve this centuries-old tradition, the child enters a world of memories, knowledge and traditions that resist the test of time. Between workshops and shipyards, conversations with master builders and walks along the waters of the estuary, the story unfolds like a bridge between generations. This docufiction interweaves reality and fiction, testimonies and dramatization, showing how cultural heritage is transmitted, not only through words, but through lived experiences. More than telling the story of the Vougas, this film celebrates those who keep them alive, and those who will one day carry them forward.”

Know Hope

Israeli street-artist Addam Yekutieli kept his anonymity and signed his works with the pseudonym "Know Hope". He began drawing human-like characters that rapidly gained attention and granted him the title the "Israeli Banksy". But when he experiences an eruption of autoimmune arthritis, he is forced to rethink his artwork in light of his new physical disability. The film documents moments in which a personal human drama generates art and political action. The anonymity of the hit-and-run street artist is replaced with intensive and intimate social interactions, exploring how painful memories and experiences may be alleviated through art.

Neva

In various states and forms (liquid, vapour, ice; raw and refined stone), the elements of this union aim to evoke, with a near-tactile chill on the skin, a multifaceted St. Petersburg: austere and enigmatic, monolithic yet secretive. Water and stone—two opposing forces—merge through human will, not to destroy one another but to create something marvellous. At a certain point, the boundary between ice and granite dissolves: ancient ammonites, once dwellers of the seas, turn to stone; the river’s icy veneer cracks like an old embankment. Out of mist or blizzard, Petrograd emerges before us.

Flying into the Landscapes of the Past

Aerial archaeology traces the human imprint on the world from above. In his documentary, Josef Císařovský offers an engaging introduction to this little-known field, elevating it through existential and psychogeographic reflections. The film reveals how many subtle, indelible traces of our ancestors surround us, transforming how viewers perceive landscape, history, and their place within it, while a poetic commentary deepens its fascination with both pagan and Christian spirituality.

Luchtalarm (Air Raid Siren)

Since 2018, artist Sebastián Díaz Morales (1975) has filmed the streets of Amsterdam every first Monday of the month at 12 o'clock. His camera records daily life through every season. These serene moments blend with the testing of the air raid siren, a loud, howling sound that warned of bombardments during the Second World War. Today, wars still rage in other countries, but when the alarm sounds in Amsterdam, life continues as usual. The siren has become like an old custom. Once it signaled danger; now it's an everyday urban sound along with car horns and bicycle bells. The video reveals this odd truth: a system meant to protect us has faded into the back-ground. The air raid siren so familiar to the city will probably be terminated at the end of 2025. Díaz Morales offers a farewell salute to an alarm that no longer sounds the alarm. Hear the future!

Jeff Lynne's ELO at the BBC

Hold on tight for a trip through the BBC’s music archives, exploring the sometimes weird but always wonderful world of the Electric Light Orchestra. The pop pioneers’ futuristic fusion of rock n’ roll and classical arrangements first took off in the 1970s with founder members Jeff Lynne, Roy Wood and Bev Bevan, with Lynne taking on frontman, songwriting and producing responsibilities following Roy Wood’s early departure and turning them into stars all over the world. This programmes brings together the very best of the band’s performances at the BBC over the years, including hits like 10538 Overture, Don’t Bring Me Down, Livin’ Thing, Sweet Talkin’ Woman and, of course, the ever-enduring Mr Blue Sky.

Hardcore 90

At the end of the 1980s, the first generation of Brazilian punk rock lived a cycle of violence and self-destruction. In the opposite direction, the beginning of the next decade sees the emergence of a powerful and tuned in generation that amplifies the echoes of punk, coming up with new subgenres. More politicized, united and socially conscious, the 1990s crop came along to put an end to the conflicts of the "old-timers" and bring new life to an engaged and active scene, ushering in new talent to the Brazilian music landscape, with important names such as No Violence, Agrotóxico, Ação Direta, Garage Fuzz, Dominatrix, among others.

BBC Storyworks x Who Gives A Crap: Behind the 50% of Profits We Donate

“We are so proud and excited that BBC Storyworks produced a short film for us as a part of their series on businesses doing good. It’s an honour to be included and celebrated in this way. And really, it’s a celebration of all of us. Even you! Because without your little choices – as little as buying toilet paper – none of this would have been possible. Our short film shares the powerful story of Antoinette, a sanitation worker in Nairobi who’s changing lives through clean toilets and community hygiene education. Her work — alongside our partners at Fresh Life — shows the incredible impact your toilet paper choices can have. #WhoGivesACrap #BBCStoryworks #BBC #FreshLife #Sanitation #Toilets #SocialImpact #BCorp”
