Recuerda

Her father drew and painted. He also created murals and recorded family life with a home camera. He was interested in the intersection of justice and beauty, in everything that enchants the passing of the day and in every event that politically shapes an era. He painted horror, mercy, and imagination; he drew diverse human figures with his brush, sometimes associating them with situations that provoke indignation at a world order that favors the few. This is how Melina Terribili portrays her father, Carlos Terribili, a prominent Buenos Aires artist whose murals, such as "The Grey Angel," epitomize his technique and ideology. Terribili uses diverse materials: those she filmed recently in excellent resolution and in the 1990s on video with lower resolution, as well as fragments filmed on Super-8 and video by her parents.

Gaza: A Forever War

A Forever War is a powerful investigation into the war on Gaza, challenging Israel’s response to the Hamas-led attacks in October 2023. Global condemnation of Israel’s war on Gaza recently echoed around the United Nations, where many states continued to label it “genocide”. Yet Israel has largely ignored international opinion, even pressure from the United States. With a ceasefire now on the table just days before the second anniversary of the Hamas-led attacks on October 7, 2023, this film examines what Australian journalist John Lyons calls “one of the most brutal wars of modern times”. Lyons confronts Israeli political, military and intelligence figures on their motives and asks whether there was no alternative to killing more than 66,000 Palestinians, including over 20,000 children. A current cabinet member, a former foreign minister, and ex-Prime Minister Ehud Barak argue Israel’s actions are self-defence.

Shadowland

Director Otso Tiainen’s fascinating study of an esoteric community hidden within the French Pyrenees begins by exploring the seekers drawn to this place, supposedly the home of the Holy Grail. However, it is the appearance of charismatic film director Richard Stanley that truly ignites the story. Before long, accusations about his conduct surface, and the residents find themselves caught in a battle for their very souls. The dangers of blind faith and the magnetic pull of certain personalities are put under the microscope in this breathtaking examination of a small microcosm of society forced to confront who they are when everything they believe is challenged. A vital film that urges us to scrutinize our heroes, SHADOWLAND is a must-see—not only to contextualize the inner battles we all face but also to finally see the truth laid bare.

Finding the Money

FINDING THE MONEY follows economist Stephanie Kelton on a journey through Modern Money Theory or “MMT”. Kelton provocatively asserts the National Debt Clock that ticks ominously upwards in New York City is not actually a debt for us taxpayers at all, nor a burden for our grandchildren to pay back. Instead, Kelton describes the national debt as simply a historical record of the number of dollars created by the US federal government currently being held in pockets, as assets, by the rest of us. MMT bursts into the media with journalists asking, “Have we been thinking about how the government spends money, all wrong?” But top economists from across the political spectrum condemn the theory as “voodoo economics”, “crazy” and “a crackpot theory”. FINDING THE MONEY traces the conflict all the way back to the story we tell about money, injecting new hope and empowering countries around the world to tackle the biggest challenges of the 21st century: from climate change to inequality.

Conversation avec Martin Scorsese, en notes et en images

Martin Scorsese is renowned for his masterful use of music in his films. His relationship with music is deep and complex, and he considers it a crucial element of cinematic storytelling. In many of his films, music plays a role almost as important as the characters themselves. It can serve to underscore the characters' emotions, reinforce the film's themes, or evoke a particular era. While Scorsese regularly collaborates with renowned composers to create memorable soundtracks, from Bernard Herrmann and Elmer Bernstein to Robbie Robertson and Howard Shore, what he enjoys most is incorporating existing pieces of music ; "the soundtrack to his life", as he puts it.
