Denis Bokuradze, director of the Gran chamber theatre from the provincial Volga city of Novokuibyshevsk, is eagerly awaiting the opening of the new stage. For the city of chemists and oil workers, this will be the first real city theatre in its history – Novokuibyshevsk has never had its own theatre building before. Construction takes up all the director’s free time from work on performances, distracting him from rehearsals, taking away his health and attention. Not everything is going smoothly: the builders are missing deadlines and at some point it seems that the construction may stop altogether. The director is trying with all his might to prevent this. At the same time, he is releasing a premiere, preparing for new productions and solving a host of everyday, organizational and creative problems that arise daily in the team and make up the life of a chamber theatre…

Jangheung 1950: The War in the Village

Set against the backdrop of the Jangheung Massacre and the chaotic events of the Korean War, this gripping film explores the brutal reality of civilian life during one of Korea's darkest times. The Jangheung Massacre of 1948, and the subsequent horrors of 1950, unfold through the chilling accounts of civilians caught in the crossfire of war. Following the Yeosu-Suncheon Incident on October 19, 1948, the massacre continued in waves: the military's suppression operations, the execution of members of the National People's Coalition in July 1950, the killings during the People's Army occupation, and the brutal retribution killings after police forces regained control in October 1950. Jangheung was a region so deeply involved in the war's guerilla activity that the People's Guerrilla Command of Jeollanam-do was even set up near the village of Gaji Mountain. As a result, civilian casualties were massive.

Echoes of the Forgotten

Dark, unusual clouds gathered in the sky, slowly drifting toward the memory-laden hillside. With the typhoon approaching, people made their way to the cemetery atop Jian Mountain, hoping to reclaim the fading fragments of the past before the storm arrived. From deep within the mountains came the occasional sound of dogs barking—whispers, almost, of buried stories: ancestors who were relocated, stray dogs that were driven away, a woman still waiting for her husband’s return, and myself, trying to find a connection to my father in the cracks of memory—and perhaps, to find myself as well.
