Subsequently, during "el Oncenio de Leguía" (1919-1930), ideological and political currents of aprismo and socialism emerged, led by Víctor Raúl Haya de la Torre and José Carlos Mariátegui, which left a mark on the country's life.

This picture will not leave anyone indifferent. We are talking about Afghanistan, or rather about the victims of the "unknown" war: soldiers who performed their international duty, widows and mothers. The creators of this sharp and harsh tape raised questions, most of which were hushed up. In their work, the truth about the war in Afghanistan, about what the war cost our people, appears uncut and uncomplicated.

The film doesn’t have any commentary. It presents pictures illustrating the history of Poland in chronological order: portraits of rulers and magnates, historical events, such as uprisings, but also balls, hunting, concerts, from the Middle Ages to the present day. In just twenty and a few minutes, the exhibition's message was captured - the heritage of the centuries and the image of the historically changing Polish identity.
Who Are You?
The film consists of two basic components: the music of Charles Ives, 'The unanswered question', from 1907, and a letter written by an old woman who has lost her memory. Between these two elements, which are often repeated, a story like an abyss is built, in which information is progressively reduced. The words become music, the music becomes a rustle, the rustle turns into silence.

On July 10, 1978, Eric Wilson - a 19-year from Ottawa and student at Tufts University - left home to drive to a summer college course in Colorado. When he went missing four days afterward in Nebraska, his family tried to persuade local and U.S. police that he wasn't simply a runaway and hadn't simply forgotten to call home. The program examines the lengths to which they had to go to find out what happened to Eric, and the byzantine nature of the legal system which seemed less interested in pursuing justice than in avoiding the expenses involved in the investigation and potential trials. Preserved by the Academy Film Archive, in partnership with Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, in 2007.

'What we did, right, was we broke open the pop market, right? To trad music, right? Irish trad music, yeah? Now what happened after that I don't know...' So confesses toothy, hard-drinkin' Shane McGowan, lead man with punk-folk megastars the Pogues, the band that has taken traditional Irish folk and ramshackle rock to the bright pop lights of Wembley. In this rather haphazard but proud spirit, the documentary, like the Pogues' career itself, continues: the band and the various famous rockers they've jammed with offering opinions and anecdotes in a surprisingly entertaining and often revealing manner. Even if you have absolutely no interest in the music, the vast array of pasty-faced uglies is really quite stunning.

The drama which has followed the 1986 World Rally Championship continued as the drivers contested the week-long San Remo event in Italy. This classic review captures the action as the top teams battled out on the tarmac and gravel in their final Continental appearance before the Group B Peugeots, Lancias and Metros became outlawed. To do justice to the final fling of the 400bhp 4x4 monsters the cameramen searched out the finest spots to record the top-speed straights and the thousands of breathtaking sweeps along the Riviera. But there was more than the usual behind-the-scenes activities contributing to the overall picture and before the San Remo result was finalised there was action threatening to upset the entire championship.

This film interview affords a glimpse of a bold and learned mind illuminating important social issues. Responding to questions on the related topics of language, democracy, and the role of the modern university, acclaimed literary critic Northrop Frye explains why education is crucial: "A democracy cannot function without articulate citizens." Frye claims that the university is a place where individual liberty becomes possible, as students learn to question beliefs imposed by society. For Frye, reading and writing are "instruments of freedom."

Enticed by the promise of jobs and fair wages, 100,000 Filipinos immigrated to the U.S. between 1924 and 1935 to toil on California’s farmlands. Because of the exclusion of Filipina women and U.S. anti-miscegenation laws, they survived the loneliness of racial discrimination by creating close-knit bachelor societies where cockfights, poker games and dance halls served as their entertainment, and by entering into common law marriages.

From an ancient burial site at Honokahua, Maui, to the streets of Honolulu, the issue of protecting ancestral remains from development is brought passionately to the public’s attention by Hawaiian descendants. A few days before Christmas, 1988, a 24-hour vigil is held at the state capitol to protest the excavation of almost 900 ancient burials from the sands of Maui’s Honokahua bay by archeologists contracted to clear the area for construction of a new Ritz Carlton resort. The effort to stop the desecration is met with overwhelming support from the community and soon an agreement is reached between the state government and the developer to move the hotel site and reinter the bones. This collective action eventually resulted in legislation to repatriate ancestral remains from universities and museums throughout the world and protect burial sites throughout Hawai‘i.

The team of filmmakers coordinated by Paul Leduc collects the testimonies of the main actors in the conflict that led to a civil war that lasted 12 years, causing 75,000 dead and a million displaced, in a country of 5 million inhabitants.
