Denis Villeneuve created this film during his participation in the third season of La Course Destination Monde, a show broadcast on Radio-Canada in which contestants travelled to different regions of the world to make short films about their journeys. It premiered on the episode broadcast on January 14th 1991, alongside behind the scenes footage of Villeneuve translating his words into English, and the producers in Canada. The short appears to have been filmed in Tokyo, and features some of Vangelis' score for Blade Runner (1982). Villeneuve would go on to direct the film's sequel, Blade Runner 2049. Publically, all that remains of this short is the behind the scenes footage released from Radio-Canada's archive.

Canudos was a small village in northeastern Brazil, founded by the messianic leader Antônio Conselheiro and massacred by a powerful army until the death of the last of its 30,000 inhabitants, on October 5, 1897. The film tells the story of the Canudos massacre from an English cannon, nicknamed by the backlands people "A Matadeira", which was transported by twenty teams of oxen through the backlands to fire a single shot.

German director Werner Schroeter invited his favourite opera singers to a 13th century abbey near Paris. There was no pre-planned action. There was no script, no continuity. On the other hand, there were precise constraints that provided the rules of the game: the setting, the Abbey of Royaumont, and the chosen participants. Although Plato’s account of Atlantian masonry, consisting of red, white and black stones, was a visually perfect match for the modern walls of the Minoan excavation site favored by the film, and his account of a sea made impassable by small islands of mud could, in fact, be a description of the rafts of pumice left by the catastrophic eruption of an ancient volcano there, little mention is made of Plato's specific account of where Atlantis was or the common root that links Atlantis to the Atlantic ocean. Also omitted is Plato's chronology placing the sinking of Atlantis in the same time frame as the end of the last ice age which caused the inundation of huge expanses of once fertile lands. Hanoch Rosen directed, Miron Minster composed (Ariel Zilber also contributed), and Ephraim Sidon wrote. Behind the scenes were added to the DVD released in 2013. They are half humorous and half serious.
