La vida a través de Vega

The Asturian Valentín Vega is considered one of the most relevant photographers of the last century. He knew how to portray all the essential elements of daily life like no one else and at the same time exercise a devastating display of social criticism. After spending three years in prison for his political affiliation and managing to establish himself as a street photographer, he would continue to offer an unusual image of reality and daily life from the 1940s onwards.

Miedo/Fear

We live in a society that, to a certain extent, allows itself to be ruled by an Empire of Fear. The origin of many historical events can be traced back to repression, to loss, these events converge to form a catastrophe of such magnitude that the wounds never heal. A vicious circle is thus created, which contributes to the preservation of fear. The idea here is to construct a new context for the images; to imprint on the images a personal perspective by virtue of which they can be transposed to a subjective level. In this way, to raise the question of whether the events can be read from one's own perspective, from a different place.

Los resistentes

Stories of protagonists of the clandestine struggle called Peronist resistance, between 1955 and 1965. First the bombings of the civilian population of Buenos Aires on June 16 and then the military coup of September 16, 1955, drive workers and people from the people to come out in defense of the Perón government. There the "abnormal, excessive, hallucinatory odyssey of the Resistance" was born, the clandestine struggle against a bloody dictatorship called the "Liberating Revolution" and renamed the "Fusiladora". Today, those same men and women with more than 70 years, remember their struggle, and still vindicate themselves as resistant.

Urban Planning History (Can Serra Project)

In November 1977 Vídeo-Nou drew up the proposal Projecte inicial d'estudi de les formes de vida i cultura popular als barris de Barcelona, and the Fundació Serveis de Cultura Popular became interested in and supported the initiative. The video Intervention in the neighbourhood of Can Serra (L'Hospitalet de Llobregat) was carried out from January to March 1978. Four videos were made as part of the project: Qué viene el metro!, Història Urbanística, Escuela de adultos and El barrio de las fiestas. The video was prepared and produced with the participation of the residents. It presents the process of speculative urban construction of the Can Serra neighbourhood, with interventions by neighbours, architects and local representatives. This video opened the debate on the present and future of the neighbourhood. Video-Nou's intervention in Can Serra was the first attempt to use video as an instrument to dynamise social and community life in Spain.

Mar de Fóra

More and more women are deciding to leave their countries of origin, fleeing violence and human rights violations, and embarking on the Canary Islands route, one of the deadliest in the world. During their migration process, they are exposed to greater violence simply because they are women. This double discrimination does not end when they reach European soil, where they also face prejudice and other types of structural violence that exacerbate their vulnerability. Mar de fóra seeks to portray this reality through the voices of the protagonists and people involved in their reception process in Canarian society.
