Gruschel mich! Die studiVZ-Story

A crazy Facebook deal and trouble over the "Gruscheln": studiVZ rose at an incredible pace in the 2000s to become Germany's largest social network. This drove its US competitor Facebook crazy. So much so that studiVZ founder Ehssan Dariani and his co-founders met Mark Zuckerberg in Silicon Valley and were presented with an offer that would go down in history. But a rise in ecstasy was followed by a dramatic fall - of the network and its most important founder. The documentary is about scandals, personal stories of loss and the question: did the studiVZ founders just steal everything?

Katwe

Nima Shirali’s subtly humorous film follows a community tucked between Uganda’s Katwe Salt Lake and a national park. Through the eyes of an enthusiastic teacher, a jaded caretaker and a sharp-witted mother, the salt lake is seen as a vital lifeline. Between harvests and floods, the lake transforms from a role that is central to local identity and offering a promising industry, to become a symbol of failed development. The low price of salt adds to the woes of toxic labour conditions. And yet, for many in Katwe it remains the only path of opportunity. As a flamboyant, retro-styled local politician pushes grand plans onto a crumbling mine and community, the local population reflects on what the future holds.

My Grandmother's Skirt

The Witteveen family did not often talk about the war, not even their grandmother, who had lived through it. That changes when one of her grandsons, through his aunt, comes across an old liberation skirt belonging to his grandmother, a garment she had kept for 73 years. Curious about the story behind it, he delves into archives and talks to family members in search of answers. What begins as a simple discovery becomes a personal journey through her war experiences and a reflection on his own freedom, identity, and how the traces of the past are still palpable.
