Ruth: The Recovery Series

Ruth's addiction to drugs and alcohol began when she was fourteen years old. They provided her with instant relief from painful memories of childhood physical, mental and sexual abuse, and from her work as a prostitute. After eighteen years of addiction, Ruth knew that in order to survive she'd have to quit. In desperation she contacted Alcoholics Anonymous, and through them and other support groups learned that change was possible. In this first-person account, Ruth describes her struggle to stay off drugs and alcohol and her determination to take responsibility for her own life. This is one of a series of films about women recovering from drug and/or alcohol dependency. The related film Turnaround: A Story of Recovery describes a program Ruth participated in earlier in her recovery at Aurora House in Vancouver.

ERYTHROPOIEISIS AND ERYTHROPOIETIN

The red blood cells that carry oxygen throughout the body have a lifespan of 120 days. The living body continuously produces blood to ensure a plentiful supply of red blood cells. This film accurately records the conversion of stem cells into red blood cells. Conditions such as encounters with various other cells and contact with signals sent by other cells are important for the growth of blood cells, and the erythropoietin is one of these important signals. This signal stimulates the stromal cells to produce the necessary number of red blood cells which are continuously sent into the bloodstream. Mitt land (Mi país)

Peter Nestler's short focusses the works of four Chilean artists: two painters [Nicolas de la Cruz and Jorge Kuhn], a graphic designer [Rolando Pérez], and a guitar player [Adrián Miranda]. Together they show, without words, how they see their beautiful country after the coup d'etat - suddenly the colorful pastoral scenes change to the sharp contrasts of black-and-white woodcuts presenting the distorted faces of the military dictators - and what they hope for the future.

Nieskończoność dalekich dróg. Podsłuchana i podpatrzona Zofia Rydet

Andrzej Różycki's film is not only a portrait of Zofia Rydet, a female artist, and her working methods, but also a capture of maturity and great passion. Rydet lets the viewer into her world, allowing them to observe her and peek in without restrictions. With great calm, she talks about the anxieties that accompany old age, the inevitable processes associated with it, which, however, are unable to stop her enormous desire to capture moments that pass irretrievably. Rydet's mission is endless, just as the roads she photographed are endless. The artist's skills were a way of life for her; thanks to them, she created, got to know people, saw beauty, shared it, loved, observed the changing landscape, and communicated everything that words cannot express.
