Foam City

In a city submerged by a dam collapse, life continues beneath the waves. Lilly, a daring young woman, takes part in the annual race called The Crossing, where the winner gets the chance to leave the flooded world behind. As she speeds through underwater streets, submerged buildings, and coral-lit alleys, memories resurface: this is no ordinary race. Every corner of the city reminds her of Simon, her lost love and co-architect of this aquatic paradise. What begins as a race for freedom turns into a journey through their shared dreams, love, and loss, forcing Lilly to face the haunting truth of why she must let go in order to finally rise to the surface.

Botching.

Hacking a Robot for fun, or malicious intent, is dangerous, illegal, and banned globally. It has a name: Botching. This is a story from one such 'Botch' job. In the future Robots will preform many mundane everyday functions from delivering your parcels to security jobs. This concept came to me when I read an article in Wired magazine about the possible outcomes of hacking a robot while its building a car, or cleaning your home or more terrifyingly, in the middle of an operation on a human patient. As of today there is no slang / street word for hacking a Robots Operating System yet the implications are massive when, not if this happens. This let me to develop ‘Botching’ as a concept. A hacker would be hired for a ‘Botch Job…’ The story was simple, if I had a criminal mind and I was a bit lazy what would I do with a team of robots at my command… the outcome is limited only by your imagination.

The Monophobic Response

The two-channel film and sculptural installation American Artist: The Monophobic Response documents a meticulously crafted yet poetically altered re-creation of a pivotal 1936 static rocket engine test that initiated the United States' venture into space travel. Inspired by Octavia E. Butler’s 1993 novel Parable of the Sower, which unfolds in the imagined dystopic year of 2024, American Artist performed and filmed The Monophobic Response in the Mojave Desert in the summer of 2024. Artist’s interpretation involved an actual rocket engine test fire in a desolate Californian landscape, creating eerie juxtapositions between Butler’s prescient visions and our troubling realities. Drawing on Butler’s fictive religious community Earthseed, this installation weaves together thought-provoking takes on the meaning of “destiny” and who gets to enact it.

Parsifal

Animated short film based on motifs from the opera PARSIFAL by Richard Wagner. The film deals with power and gender structures that use a religious context as a pretext. Wagner's work is critically examined and re-evaluated from a very personal perspective. This is done in an entertaining way that does not shy away from a popular and allusive form. The newly composed music by Nico Gaik takes up the most important leitmotifs of Wagner's opera and at the same time makes a tongue-in-cheek reference to the popular sound of big Holywood blockbusters.
