This film was produced to present the Eames proposal to make an American Revolution Bicentennial celebration. The exhibition would compare and contrast the lives of Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin, providing a cinematic trip for the viewer through the exhibit, using animation, live-action, and still photography. This Is New Zealand

The movie that wowed audiences at Expo 70. The film combined scenic images including aerial cinematography with rousing classical music such as Sibelius' Karelia Suite. Using then ground-breaking technology, the film required three separate but synchronised 35mm film projectors which projected their images onto an extra-wide screen. In 2004/2005 Archives New Zealand commissioned a restoration at post production facility, Park Road Post. Hugh Macdonald, the original director, was involved in the restoration and Kit Rollings, the original sound mixer assisted with the updated soundtrack. The remastered film was released for sale on DVD in 2014.

The World of Franklin and Jefferson

The lives of Franklin and Jefferson are used as prisms through which to evoke colonial America. With a dynamic timeline and a wealth of images drawn from architecture, science, and politics, the film brings alive the way American history shaped, and was shaped by, these two men. Benjamin Franklin, standing for the best in colonial wisdom, and Thomas Jefferson, representing the opportunities and ambitions of a new nation, together offer a compelling approach to this richly textured area.

Maidens

Maidens(1978) is an autobiographical essay film, using personal archives, still and moving image, from both domestic and other sources, lyrical narration and emotive music to trace the filmmaking journey of one feminist (the filmmaker herself). Almost four years in the making, Maidens picked up local and international short film awards and became compulsory viewing in women and film courses around the country -- where it sparked much impassioned debate. It remains essential viewing for an enhanced understanding of the moment of awakened consciousness that characterised 1970s feminism.

Edvard Munch: Special Edition (Part 1)

Famously described by Ingmar Bergman as a "work of genius", Peter Watkins' multi-faceted masterpiece is more than just a bio-pic of the iconic Norwegian Expressionist painter. Focusing initially on Munch's formative years in late 19th Century Oslo, Watkins uses his trademark style to create a vivid picture of the emotional, political and social upheavals that would have such an effect on his art. The young artist (Geir Westby) has an affair with "Mrs Heiberg" (Gro Fraas), a devastating experience that will haunt him for the rest of his life, and his work is viciously attacked by the critics and public alike. He is forced to leave his home country for Berlin, where, along with the notorious Swedish playwright August Strindberg, he becomes part of the cultural storm that is to sweep Europe.

USSR: A Society Without Crisis

Through an interview with Professor Leonid Abalkin and the Anikeev family, the documentary's proposal is to present the quick improvement of life felt by the Soviet population, obtained with the increase of the population's income and expansion of social rights. With still dynamic growth, the Soviet economy was consolidating mass production in several economic sectors. The examples used in the documentary, the ZIL, KamAZ factories and the construction of the Baikal-Amur railway (BAM) seek to demonstrate the development of this centralized economy. Attention was also paid to the new technologies of integrated circuits, which enabled economic calculations, previously impossible to be processed manually. The automation of industries was also addressed by the documentary. The marxist idea presented was that the automation of industries in Soviet Union don't promoted layoffs, as a result of the contradictions between work and capital, which occur in capitalist countries.
