Three Stories

A man goes to see his former schoolmate working at a boiler house and persuades him to burn in the furnace the corpse of his communal flat neighbor whom he has just murdered after a quarrel. An orphaned girl gets a job in the archives of the maternity home to find out the identity of her mother who abandoned her years earlier. She finds her, befriends her and takes the first opportunity to throw her into the sea. An old intellectual tries to explain to the neighbor’s five-year-old daughter “all the abomination of her lumpen existence”. The girl feeling hurt for her mother decides to poison the old man with arsenic.

Everything Will Be All Right

This charming comedy tracks the lives of several romantic pairs through trials and tribulations. The main focus of the story is a young soldier with a good heart but little ambition and his fiancée, who feels torn when a charming and sophisticated intellectual enters her life and sweeps her off her feet. There are also several side stories, also all dealing with relationships, most significantly the soldier's mother, whose comfortable but unexceptional marriage is threatened when a past love returns to her life.

A wealthy American businessman, Mr. Clarke, forces his dissolute but charming nephew James to go with him to Russia, where he buys a Faberge watch that belonged to Nicholas II himself. He is received by Mr. Borsch, who dreams of becoming a minister by signing a lucrative contract. A representative of a Japanese company, nicknamed the Samurai during the auction, is hunting for the same watch. Borshch's wife also "laid eyes" on an antique watch, and a talented thief leaves the prison. All the participants of the future adventures met at the restaurant, where James met the beautiful niece of Borsch's wife. Mr. Clark flies to Namibia, instructing his nephew to put the watch in the hotel safe. Naturally, on the same evening, the watch is stolen...
