Tormented by the messy and frivolous life of his family, a father is forced to move away from home.

Marianne, the charming daughter of the "magic king," is engaged to master butcher Oskar. She meets bon vivant Alfred, who is supported by Valerie and makes a living from betting on horse races and other dubious business deals. During a picnic in the Vienna Woods, Marianne falls in love with Alfred and wants to break off her engagement to Oskar. Her father disowns her, Marianne moves in with Alfred and soon has a child by him. Alfred soon tires of Marianne's clinginess and takes the child to his mother in the Wachau region, while Marianne works as a dancer in a variety show. At the lowest point of her humiliation, Marianne returns to her parents' house. Her father forgives her, and Oskar asks for her hand in marriage, despite her having a child with Alfred. A happy ending seems imminent until Marianne learns what has happened in the Wachau region.

The woman, trying to escape, finds herself involved in a series of crimes, from theft to murder.

He triggers the alarm. The fire department and several workmen marvel at the event and ponder how it could have gotten there in its full size. The return transport requires structural measures and reconstruction work. After completion, Psischinski's house resembles a "jewel box". Later, the policeman asks Psischinski how he "managed" the matter and learns that he had brought a foal there 1½ years ago in order to draw the attention of the public, especially the tradesmen, at the appropriate time so that work that was difficult to carry out could finally be completed. Shaking his head, the official, who also owns a house, leaves the property with the comment: "You should have a horse!"

At the Næsbygaard estate, the old landowner misses his grandson Martin, who is on a cattle farm in Texas learning about agriculture. The estate's shooter is ill, so the stud master has to take care of his job as well. This comes at a time when he is training hard for the gallop race for the King's honorary prize. To help lift their spirits, they are visited by some children from Copenhagen who are on vacation. When serious problems arise involving poaching on the estate's land, the children help to solve the case. The stud farm manager is injured, and it looks as if the estate's horse will not be able to participate in the big gallop race. But luckily, young Martin returns home from Texas just in time....

In the second half, a curious interplay involving a carrot unfolds at a railway station.

Wong Boon-kap has recently returned from his studies abroad. Following the orders of his father Tai-ming, Boon-kap goes undercover as a mechanic apprentice in the father's factory to spy on their staff while keeping an eye out for talents. The boot-licking the factory manager Fung Hon-wing and his secretary Cheung Pat-fu respectively enlist their goddaughter Lam Hap-ping and niece Cheung Yuk-lin to join the ranks of the female workers to unveil the identity of the young boss. Ho Chui-wan lands a job at the factory through Lam's connection. Ho's disapproval of the practice of fawning and sycophancy rampant in the factory gains Boon-kap's respect which develops into romance. Tai-ming shatters the heated rumour that the young and promising Hung Yuet-keung is the young boss by announcing the wedding of his son, Boon-kap, to Ho to the huge disappointment of Fung and Cheung.
