Wallpapering, painting or sanding wooden floorboards are bohemian villages for Mona. Heinz Hoschek constantly oscillates between bitter irony and self-pity, between imagination and reality, between a hopeful then and his now, which can only be endured with increased consumption of alcohol and Valium. No doubt about it: the man is an underachiever.

Franz Lehár’s “Die Lustige Witwe” is reputed to be one of the most famous operettas in the world. Under the direction of the French Jerome Savary's the “Merry Widow” sparkles. At the first staging of this production at the Opera-Comique in Paris (Octobre, 2005) the singers appeared to be having as much fun as the audience. The Austrian Maestro Manfred Honeck presents his musical view on this operetta.

Germany in 1949: The residents of the Thuringian village Hunsdorf are still heavily influenced by archaic superstition and explain unusual events with preternatural powers. The same happens when pigs again and again disappear from different farmyards. The village residents firmly believe that witches are the reason for this mystery. Not even police detective Kühlemann who is sent to Hunsdorf is able to dissuade them from their superstition. Thus, the farmers think his investigation is aimless and they do not support him at all. With a lot of patience and well-made arguments he finally convinces little Peter that there are no witches. Next, Peter’s grandfather and teacher Marianne take Kühlemann’s side. With their support, the police detective eventually finds out the truth and is able to put a stop to the gang of crooks that had been stealing the pigs.

Hartmann, a first-time film director is trying to find an actor for the Role of Casanova. Wenn he meets Alfred Edel, the actor's colourful personality spoils Hartmann's vision of a glorious Casanova epic. In the end, the director realizes that all the time he wanted to make this movie to please his mother, so he decides instead to join Edel's way of having fun.

When advertising experts Bob and Bert Vogel arrive in the village, they promise the mayor that they will replace the dusty regulars with wealthy visitors from all over Germany. What follows is a turbulent vacation season which, thanks to the inn's attractive daughters, involves a lot of physical activity.

I like that this special turned out exactly like this — funny, chaotic, sometimes a bit sad, with some swearing, and at times very personal. It might not be perfectly polished according to all the “rules” of the genre, but it perfectly reflects how I’ve been feeling over the past few years. Stand-up has always helped me get through tough times, so I hope that for you too (through me) it can do the same: make you laugh, help you switch off, maybe even make you think. Take whatever you want from it — the main thing is, no negativity!

The short film anthology MusicStories brings classical music to life through the art of storytelling. MusicStories takes you on a cinematic journey through classical music. It draws on various genres and visual languages - from black-and-white silent films to historical melodramas and romantic comedies. Specially interpreted classics such as Beethoven's “Für Elise” and “In the Hall of the Mountain King” by Edvard Grieg serve as the film music. The format creates a new kind of access to the audience through the symbiosis of classical music and narrative film.
