A Special Day

The clash of two styles of approaches to people, science, and business is the main conflict of the film. Both central characters - the head of the Altai complex space station and the experiment leader Andrei - are people devoted to science. But Altai is an emotional person, he manages to take care of people, forgive them their small shortcomings and mistakes. Andrey is dry, sometimes even rude to his employees. His absorption in work sometimes borders on selfishness. This gives rise to a clash with Touma, a gifted physicist, but a man of a different plane.

Setting Sun

A sad story about a day in the life of an old captain, now retired. The sadness of this story is softened by a noble dose of humor. It is built on the discrepancy between a quiet life with its small, retirement joys, worries, and the inertia of the old captain's still vivid imagination. Each collision of dream and reality evokes both a slight pain and a smile of understanding. With the help of subtle, unobtrusive details, the director has managed to create the impression of a life that is passing away, sailing away, saying goodbye.

Father of the Kamikaze

Vice Admiral Takajiro Ohnishi could see that Japan's defeat in WWII was inevitable. He came to realize that the only way to force a negotiated solution was to convince the Americans that invading Japan would cause massive casualties on both sides. The cold logic of suicide attacks, where one man and one plane could kill hundreds, seemed the only solution. In one of the cruel ironies of fate, Ohnishi actually succeeded; he convinced the Americans that invading Japan would be too costly in lives. But what he could not foresee was that America had another way of ending the war.
