The film expresses the desires, anguish, and bitterness of the men surrounding Yoko, and depicts the muddled history and the world of unknowns, while also asking what is human? What is life?

The film depicts a group of boys and girls who graduate from a local junior high school and head to Tokyo to find employment, and the teachers who watch over them. Co-written by newcomer Shigeki Chiba and Kaneto Shindo, the film was directed by Kozaburo Yoshimura.

A hard-boiled film that follows a detective who will be killed the next morning should he fail his mission, the yakuza assigned to watch over him, and the friendship that develops as they work together.
