At the beginning of the 20th century, Célestin Freinet, the son of a farmer, had always dreamed of teaching. When, belatedly, he managed to land a teaching post, he found himself confronted by his pupils' lack of motivation. To get them interested in learning again, Célestin had the idea of abandoning traditional methods and turning his pupils into budding journalists.

This complex and puzzling French drama walks the fine wavering line between the fictional and the very real as it tells the tale of a strangely erotic event in the life of a little girl and the musings of a schizophrenic woman. Also involved is an enigmatic spouse who prepares a surprise for a burglar.

Eventually, he encounters another woman who is not so sticky and tells her to buzz off. When they meet some time later, it becomes clear that the relationship meant different things to each of them.

Jean-Michel Barjol, a friend of Jean Eustache, was a young rebel who threw himself into cinema with reckless abandon.
