The Hour and Turn of Augusto Matraga

Augusto Matraga is a violent agressive farmer who, after being betrayed by his wife and trapped by several enemies, is beaten up and left for dead, being rescued by a couple of humble small farmers who nurse him for a long time until he is well again. Influenced by the couple, Matraga starts a long penitent life while waiting for his hour and chance to payback, starting a fight between his violent nature, his hidden desire of vengeance and the mysticism and goodness which is also part of him.

Peace has returned to Björndal. After his father's death, young Dag succeeds him and strives to build a good relationship with his neighbor von Gall. The young farmer is determined to return the Borgland farm, which his father acquired by secretly purchasing bills of exchange. Dag leaves the old man in charge of the estate and assigns Aunt Elo, a lovely relative of his wife Adelheid, to assist him. He also brings Adelheid's father, Major Barre, to Björndal, where he is to spend his retirement with the young family. According to the Lexicon of International Films, the film is a Heimatfilm of a relatively respectable standard.

On his wife Lucy's birthday, sales representative Harry Clayton cannot be with her in their cottage in the country, but is in London on business, where he is staying at the Wilson couple's boarding house. When Lucy calls him in the evening, she tells him that Pointer the woodsman has come by and worked for her in the garden. Harry is worried: the couple had already had a bad experience with Pointer, who was often drunk, and didn't really want to employ him again. Just as Harry and Lucy are about to hang up, Lucy hears a strange noise from outside: apparently someone is on the property. Harry is worried because Lucy is alone in the house and now she remembers that she hasn't locked the back door. As she goes to lock it, the telephone line, which was manually connected by two operators, is disconnected.

Taiwan's most glamorous screen couple, Ko Chun-Hsiung and Chang Mei-Yao, co-star in "Fallen Petals", a romance with the unique setting of Taiwan during World War II, when the island was a colony of Japan. Ko is drafted into the Japanese army and forced to leave his pregnant girlfriend behind. When he is presumably killed in action, Chang becomes a cabaret girl to support their baby. Thanks to director Pan Lei's sensitive scenario, the dramatic outcome is far from predictable.
